Walnut lamp project

As always, gorgeous work Ron.

Are you still using plasma to create the faux torched edges? I saw some good reviews for an inexpensive unit on Amazon and have been thinking of adding it to the fleet partly for that purpose.

Richard thanks for the kind words.

No on the plasma. I picked up a really nice used Victor oxy/acetylene rig from a guy earlier this year and I’m using it.

The results from the plasma are too “clean”. The texture from an actual flame is much more interesting. There’s more melting and reforming of the metal.

In addition the oxy/acetylene torch will cut much thicker stuff with just changing the tip out. My son’s plasma is a Hypertherm 45XP and in theory can do about 1/2 inch but usually does better with 3/8 or less. Plus it does much better with really dry air from the compressor and I don’t have a dryer on mine.
