Ways to retain miter bar in miter track?

Hey all — scratching my head on this. I’m trying to build a framing sled for my SawStop JSS, and the issue with the small deck on that saw is that I need to pull the sled far enough back that it wants to tip off.

The JSS ships with a miter gauge that’s got a piece of top hat aluminum extrusion that perfectly fits the miter slot (link). Ideally I’d like to buy a length of this, but their notes say that it’s only compatible with the JSS.

That got me thinking that there must be a broader solution here. Nearly every miter track I’ve seen — aftermarket or otherwise — doesn’t have this retaining function. You can just adjust them to width.

What have you all done to keep your sleds and jigs from tipping back?

I made an extension for use with the miter gauge that is retracted past the table edge:

Not sure if the concept works for a JSS.

All of my sleds use a miter bar that have a washer on the bottom that prevents tipping. I think Woodpeckers offers a bar that has that feature plus a way to snug up the bar in the miter slot.

One of my miter gauges has a washer as you described, but I don't like it because I can't lift up the miter gauge in certain situations unless I retract the whole thing.

Interesting! This is the woodpeckers option I think is being described (link) and that’s a handy set. The nice thing about a bar is that it doesn’t put all the pressure on a single tab or washer. Or, at least, that’s what I was thinking.

And understood on it getting stuck in the slot. That’s the trade off!
