Whats up for the holiday weekend peeps?

I am going to be in the shop of course. Using all the Festools still sitting new in their boxes!

Nickao

Lucky you. I am installing more laminate flooring for a friend on Sat. I also was supposed to got to a family picnic, but I assumed my father-inlaw would schedule it for Monday, but he set it up the exact time I am supposed to lay this flooring. The rest of the time, I am not sure. I would like to get started on my bath vanity. I bought some new tools too, but need to familiarize myself with them. I bought the K3 Kreg set, and need to read up on that. I guess lastly, just spend time with my family, and I might go out to my Dad's grave sight and spend time there too.

We're having a small neighborhood gathering on Sunday afternoon (If you're near southern Sonoma, drop in on Sunday. 10 Mission Drive, Petaluma CA 94952, 3-9PM, if you wanna eat more than snacks bring a dish 'cause I can't be trusted to run the grill rather than socialize, so we're calling it a pot-luck), and other than that I'm working on house projects.

I hope to finish a maple set of drawers to hold the Festools in their Systainers (Did my first rail and stile panels for the ends, currently gluing up the frame, lots o' Dominos there), need to build another set of trellises for the boysenberry bushes we just put in (probably out of massaranduba), put the rails back on the front steps now that I've finished the door installation  (more here), and install the reclaimed mahogany baseboards that we milled and think we've finally got finished...

Gonna be a lot of Festool in there.

Somewhere in there I need to move close to 200 board feet of maple and mahogany so that they're not in the way of our party, and if I finish all that I can get back to the cherry and birch bathroom vanity that we've got under way...

Maybe I'll get a bike ride or a hike in there somewhere too, get some aerobic exercise. Aaaand, a friend of mine is moving (as a long-term process, it'll take him another two months to get everything transferred), so I'm sure I'll get asked to help load something.

Oldest (13) son has a baseball tournament on Sat.  Depending on how they do it could run into Sunday.  M Day is usually the time to hook up the kegerator and do lots of grilling.  Things have piled up in the shop, hope to get some cleaning done in there.

Nickao,

I was thinking of driving a couple states over and helping a fellow FOG member play with all his new tools! ;D ;D

Actually I'll probaby do some yard work and maybe visit a zoo or see a movie.  I'm sure I'll go out to a park and take some photos, it's suppost to be nice weather this weekend.

Tom.

With the gas prices right now, I'm not going far. Even in our hybrid.

Think I'll spend some time organizing my new Systainers and Sys-ports. One day, I hope to have almost everything in my shop in them.

John

Doin' an install.  I like to take advantage of holidays.  All of the other trades are out of my way!!.  Actually, this job is in SW Wisconsin on waterfront property.  Hmmm.  I think I'll take a boat. ;D

Dan

We just finished our remodel (kitchen, baths, wood floor, painting, doorknobs, etc.), and we're going to begin moving back in. Putting felt pads under all the furniture legs first, of course. I can hardly wait. What a treat to wake up this morning without workmen in the house!

And Monday's my birthday, so I'll cook a nice dinner in my new kitchen for some friends. What a treat!

Only a week or so until I can reach my Festools again - they've been packed behind furniture in the garage, called plaintively to me in the night... :'(

P.S. Happy Queen Victoria's birthday to my commonwealth comrades!

happy birthday Poto.

Dan Lyke, I'd like to see your bathroom vanity. I'm still designing mine. It is going to be red oak, with a red tint. I would also like to a gel stain to make the deep part of the detail seem more aged, or darker. I'm still trying to figure out the detail I want to add on the face frame, and I was going to make the one side that is exposed a little fancy, but decided to keep it within my skill level.

Thanks for the birthday wishes Robtonya. Your bathroom vanity sounds fun. And I was reading in another thread about your divorce and re-marriage - from your avatar (but not knowing your first wife) you married up! Your wife's gorgeous! How did you do it? You must have used that mind-control technique that I used to read about on the back page of the comic books when I was a kid  :D Glad you're in a better situation now.

Have a great long weekend. And don't forget to think about the troops. Thanks, men and women, for serving our country so willingly and so well. Regardless of our thoughts on the validity of the conflict, we support you in your efforts. Thank you.

Working on Monday. I teach school and I cannot understand why the school board would vote to have school on Memorial. My oldest brother died as a result of his service in WW2 and it really bothers me that we (school district) does not honor our veterans.

Sorry for the mild rant.
John

I'm going to finish up a cutting board I started last weekend.  Hard Maple and Purple Heart.  Using Marc's design.  I found you must be very careful with the initial ripping otherwise when you start trying to line everything up later on, the seams don't line up perfectly.  Next project to start this weekend is another CB using the Incra design.  May have to go to Sam's or HD to buy one of those portable AC units.  It's already getting hotter than a two dollar pistol around here... :'(

Thanks, I always tell people that she can't see very well, thats why she chose me. She actually did some modeling for a local photographer, which was neat to see her in advertisements, like the yellow pages.

I just got back from picking up my oak veneered ply-wood from Woodcraft, so I can now get started on it. I have never done anything like this before, so wish me luck. I already see a difference in store bought vanitys, to mine. I noticed they seem to use a birch veneer ply for the interiors, I was going to use the oak ply on the interiors too. Any suggestions, will it still look good, or do I need to find some other plywood for the interior of the cabinet?

Rob, I'll get you pictures when I get a bit further along. Right now I've got a few cuts in some nice cherry that got put on hold when our el-cheapo dovetail jig slipped and mucked up a joint, and about half of the mold for the concrete top done. Maybe I can get the mold finished in amongst the other things...

And, as, alas, is par for the course for me, it exists mostly in my head and a few sketches. Me and SketchUp don't get along, maybe I'll have to re-learn Blender enough that I can start using that for 3d drawings...

Back in Virginia visiting with the fam.  It good to be back to see everyone including my new niece :)

I will be working building some raised panel doors and helping the almost missus move some of her stuff out.  Fred

PS Happy Birthday Poto and many more to you.  ;)

Thanks Fred! Gotta say, though, this getting old stuff sucks. There's two things I really hate about getting old: losing my memory, and ... I can't remember what the other one is ... :D
