I am building another decorative tray to give to some close friends of ours.  The body is walnut.  Rockler has a new jig that is a dowel spline jig that allows you to drill perfect  45 deg holes in the corners to insert dowels to add strength and accents.  I think they came out pretty good.  My question is on the inside bottom corners and bisecting from side to side I'm gonig to place some accent strips about 1/2" wide and about 1/8th thick.  Should I use the same walnut or what about using maple as a contrasting wood to match the dowels in the corner?  I also have attached a picture of my prototype where I used walnut throughout.  I also have some purpleheart but I don't think that would work.
