What Festool Did You buy Today?

Cheese.. is the KAL II worth the upgrade from KAL I? - (Internal)Battery life sucks on KAL I - and the light is decent. The light spread and soft fall-off is very good.

I don’t like the idea of constantly have to use the mains adaptor, or even occupy a 18V pack.

Huh I don't get it? No mains, no internal battery... but you don't want it to 'occupy' an 18V battery either? I love external batteries for things that run on battery. It means you can have multiple batteries for it and charge them whenever and wherever it suits you. Just like I have with my 'free' Bosch light that came when I bought my 18V caulk gun that Festool doesn't have; it uses the same battery. Drill, light, caulkgun, vac; all use the same type of battery. I like it. And Festool learned from Bosch how to waste more space (see Sys3); the L-boxx'es have some useless inlays...

Sold my ETS150 /3 and bought a Rotex RO150. Added a hard pad and a selection of Rubin, in coarse grits. Now have something for rapid removal, to go with my Mirka for finish sanding.

Rubin is for sanding bare wood.

I don't understand it in the sense that the KAL and KAL II have an internal battery already.

My only gripe with the Sys-Rock (in the US; I know that there are plenty of gripes about it in the UK) is that you can either use the hook back to hang the radio with it plugged in to mains power, or you can attach a battery to it (I use some old 12V batteries from a C-12), but then the back is useless.  I thought it had an internal battery like the KAL, but other than that I enjoy it quite a bit.

Build-in batteries are pretty useless if they don't last the whole day. Cycling lone batteries over lights and chargers is cheaper than having more lights anyway.

As Squall_line mentions, both KAL have internal battery. KAL II improved it.
My gripes is that a small portable light when first having an internal battery don’t explicit demands the purchase of a $100+ separate battery to be useful.. there are other lights that offers much much longer battery life from its internals. If so poor battery life, they could have made the light much cheaper to totally depend on the proprietary Festool 18V system. Then it would make sense to dedicate a separate battery.

The SYSRock is nice, I’ve the DAB version and sound is decent. This I mainly run of mains, but if needed one can make it wireless with a 18V battery.

I'm a lot happier than my wife will be once she sees the credit-card statement!!!!  (She doesn't know about the TSC 55K I just purchased a few minutes ago as well)

Even though most places said "ships 11/15", this big beauty arrived today (along with a polishing backing pad for my RO 90)

[attachimg=1]

Another shot

[attachimg=2]

And with its older cousin

[attachimg=3]

They should come in handy for transporting Thanksgiving leftovers in a couple of weeks.  [big grin]. I'm really curious (but not curious enough to legitimately test) to see which one stays colder longer.  I feel like the new Sys3 Cooltainer will seal better with the double-lap joint between the top and bottom.

Also, 2 out of 5 boxes from my CMS GE Router table arrived today delivered by a UPS contractor in their personal vehicle.  I have a feeling the main table box needs to come on a big brown truck, not in the back of a beat up 2003 Toyota Highlander.

Cool-tainer! That mug look decent. Is that cork on the bottom?
A Festool US special I think, never seen them here.

But, I believe that the CMS OF GE set should come complete on a pallet, strapped securely in a pallet sized box. That would be the original packaging from Festool.

You are correct,  [smile]  all the parts are packed in individual cardboard boxes and those are then packed into a single heavy wall cardboard box maybe 4'x4'x3' which is strapped to a pallet. I was surprised how large the entire package was.  [eek]  These things take up a lot of warehouse space.

Yes, it's one of the VERY few things we in the US get to lord over our EU/UK brethren as far as Festool goes.  The bottom looks like cork from afar, but up close it appears to be some sort of molded resin.  I think I'll post a separate review thread of the whole kit later.

Hartville ships via UPS (at least their free shipping option), so I think they break the pallet up and ship the constituent parts separately.  The alternative would be a freight/LTL shipment, which they definitely wouldn't absorb into their margins.  The remaining pieces arrived after dark in a late-90's Dodge Caravan with a leaky fuel line.  The driver told me, "no sense in coming at 2 in the afternoon when there's a signature required."  I must say, he had a good point.  Both delivery people were very kind and lovely people, and both seemed to appreciate that I brought a hand truck down to the street to receive the boxes.

I ordered at 9:30 PM on Tuesday, the whole kit was in my garage by 7:30 PM on Friday.  I'll start unpacking and looking for damage this afternoon; so long as there isn't any, I certainly can't complain.

SYS3 M 137 FS/2-Set (Part no’ 577157) and FS-WA-VL (Part no’ 577041)

After finally in stock, I ordered these, just arrived Thursday. Initial impression is that this is really a “must have kit” for the TS, HKC and router. The extension is optional, but I thought this might come in as a useful extra. The extension is 800mm long in total, and heavy! Apart from the t-track it’s solid aluminium. Will do very well as a straight edge too. T-Tracks has the same dimensions as those on the rails. So any rail clamp, connector etc. will fit. Comes with two no’ 2 new Festool connectors, see photo where “stored” in the tracks.

iPhone anti auto rotate image in progress..: (Hopefully straight now!)

How heigh is that thing? Does it really need to be in such a fat Systainer?

The M137 is between the old Sys-I and Sys-II sizes.  Are you saying it should have fit in an M112?

I would buy that FS/2 Set in a heartbeat if they offered it in the states.  I wonder if they just have way too many MFT/3 sets laying around to risk cannibalizing the sales.

I wish that set would come with the ratcheting quick clamps. Or at least if the dealers would allow us to switch them out for a few more bucks as an upgrade.

Please no, on the contrary, the ratcheting should only be an option. They are much heavier, demands much larger operating space, and are fiddly as a fishing reel backlash [scared] when operated one handed under the table, usually you have to use two hands..

Well, good news for those who love the ratchet, there’s a kit I’m hesitant to buy:

[member=8955]Coen[/member] - Not especially:

There’s 35mm or 1,3/8 of an inch of space in the tray beneath.
The protractor is roughly 50mm or 2” to the top of the knob.

[attachimg=2]

What I like, is that there ARE some space left for accessories to go with this set.

[member=71478]FestitaMakool[/member] ; so basically, it would fit perfectly fine in a Sys-I!? Then why the 137?

Well, yes. I don't like the whole Sys3 thing, and one reason is the waste of space. Just about everything got put in a fatter Systainer, containing more air and otherwise wasted space.
