A CTL Midi I + bags + basic cleaning set #576839 + brush

Just to have another vac and also one that is easier to take upstairs, or rather... downstairs when halfway filled with heavy debris and compacted dust.

Not liking the fact all the sets with the previous Systainer are sold out.

That is also one of the reasons I ordered the D8 Domino connector set with it; before they switch that over to the hideous Sys3 too.

A Carvex PSC 420. Used, for only 120 euro, I could not let that pass. A weak ago I bought a C15 to join my stable of 15v race horses. And I got 3 brand new 15v batteries for them.

Also bought my second Protool AGP 12-125 D grinder, I really love these, so much power in a small package and pretty quiet also. This one came with the nice DCG dust extraction head.

I buy a lot of tools on www.marktplaats.nl indeed. With a little perseverance and negotiation skills you can get very good deals. I mostly get my used Festools there at 40-50% new price.

In Amsterdam, where I live closeby, there is the Rembrandtplein market, and you can find used tools there too.

Finally, in a city called Beverwijk there is a very big market place called the "Beverwijkse Bazaar", previously called "De Zwarte Markt" (Black market), where they have several areas dedicated to stands with used tools. Whenever I am in the neighbourhood, I have a quick look there. I bought my 2018 CTL Midi there for 225 euro, and then I sold off my 2006 CTL Mini for 250 on marktplaats.  [big grin]   

Unfortunately for you and everybody else reading this, Ron is right. You're all scheduled for termination now.  You should not have asked the unaskable. [tongue]

I do seem to have a little problem though with my new used Carvex. Somehow the leds on the right side stay on permanently, even when the saw is not in use. I have read the manual to see if it is just a setting I can change, and found the part where you set the light to On, Off or Stroboscope, but only the leds on the left side react to it, and work as they should, while the ones on the right stay permanently on.

Anybody else ever encountered this? Is there a solution?

My sawbre saw does the same, as long as it's plugged in, the LED's are on.

In this case I would suspect someone re-wired something...

On the Markplaats thing; yeah, with time you can find good deals. But I soo much hate it. I'd rather work extra hours, pay the income tax and use the leftovers for the extra expense of new tools. I have a mail subscription for a few things (like a HK 85), but even if you look the minute you get the mail... it's already reserved.

Just looked for a TS 55 REBQ... there is one "almost new", but really from 2017, unknown worn blade... and there is already a bid of €360 on it. The fuck why? The thing is four years old, out of warranty, the blade is probably wasted and people still offer 75% of new price?!

I dont get the used prices either.  75% around me would probably be a good deal.  For what they want I just order from Hartville (usually) and its to my door ASAP.  Full warranty no driving to meet some seller.  Easy, convenient with full warranty easily covers the slight savings.  Every market it different I dont even bother checking anymore for used Festool.

I just bought two of them for my crew, one for 250 and the other for 275. Both saws in great condition but for one I have to buy a new blade for another 45 euro. I would not pay 360 as above for this saw, unless it came with at least two good rails.

I bought my first Festool, the RO150 for 275 on marktplaats. A professional painter bought it for a flooring project but realised after two days the sander was way too small for this, so he rented a flooring sander and sold off the Rotex. Back in 2008 there was no return policy like now. He paid 475 ex VAT for it, I got the original receipt with it.

The only good price deals I've gotten on used Festools have been from pawn shops with buy-it-now prices on eBay, honestly.  I've only ever seen a few listings for less than full market price, even tools that are in Classic systainers.  The other couple of used Festools I've bought privately have only ever been a good deal because they included a ton of accessories, since those add up quickly.

When I see used tools bidding up over retail on eBay, and those tools are still in stock online from retailers, I just shake my head in wonder and figure that someone's running a money-laundering scheme.  Either that, or hope I can find the same naïve buyers when it's time for me to sell any of my used equipment...

Well, the Midi I and cleaning set arrived. First impression; Absolutely very nice compact dust extractor. Second; this Sys^3 is bullsh*it. Mounted on top of the Midi, the handle sticking out makes the whole thing wider and so harder to store, ride or carry around.

I might just dump this Systainer on Marktplaats and get a T-Loc one.

Or maybe just remove the front handle but it seems it needs massive flexing to remove it...

The new Midi I is a big PITA.... With the CTL 26 I just put it on manual on, attach dust extraction accessoire (eg Bosch GDE 162) to the wall, then start drilling with drill attached to CTL outlet. Now with the Midi I... it turns the vac off once I turn the drill off and the GDE 162 drops to the floor.

Welcome to the club. I have hated them since day-one.
I'm not opposed to change in general, but only if it makes sense. Change merely for the sake of change or without a clear improvement is just costly with no benefit for either them or us.
I have a lot of time and effort invested in the size and arrangement of my storage cabinets for Systainers, which are all based on the 32mm increments of the system holes. They threw that out the window.
The only one I have, so far, is with the RO125 and I am not particularly looking forward to more.

So the tool-trigger overrides the manual on switch? because it is a push button rather than a turning knob?
I am looking to get a second extractor and trying to decide on either the Mini or the CT15. I'm not 100% sure I want to give up the bluetooth, but also not sure if it's that big of a deal on a secondary machine?

I'm curious about this.  I'll test this afternoon.  I have the hose-mount remote and used that to turn my MIDI-I on and off when using the drill dust extraction.  I have the BT batteries but since I knew I needed to precisely position the extraction to use the stop collar, I opted to use the hose remote instead to have two hands available.

yes, using a mains tool on a new style midi turns off after 5 seconds, if you have turned it on manualy at the machine.  not so much with bluetooth.  i find it quite useful for my sander.  have it set high 4 track saw, then plug in sander turn on, set power to low, then fire up sander (plug hose in as well), and then you can stop and start without the vac wailing away in the background and pissing off the neighbours....

Here are my setup and test results:

CT-MIDI-I
Bluetooth Remote button on hose
T-18+3 with 3.0 aH Bluetooth battery

1. Plugged in CT-MIDI-I (note: I never turn off the power switch on my MIDI-I)
2. Pressed MAN button on hose remote, MIDI cycled on.  Pressed MAN button on remote again, MIDI cycled off (this is normal and proved that it was working)
3. Pressed "pair" button on the remote button.  Pulled trigger on T-18, MIDI cycled on after ~1 second.  Released trigger, MIDI cycled off after ~3 seconds (this is normal)

T-18 Trigger:
4. Pulled trigger on T-18, MIDI cycled on after ~1 second.  Released trigger, MIDI cycled off after ~3 seconds (again, normal)

MAN Button on control panel:
5. Pressed "MAN" button on MIDI control panel.  MIDI cycled on.
6. Pulled trigger on T-18, Bluetooth receiver lit up on MIDI.  Released trigger, Bluetooth receiver light extinguished after ~3 seconds.  MIDI remained running.

MAN button on remote:
7. Pressed "MAN" button on remote.  MIDI cycled on.
8. Pulled trigger on T-18, Bluetooth receiver lit up on MIDI.  Released trigger, Bluetooth receiver light extinguished after ~3 seconds.  MIDI remained running.  Pressed "MAN" on remote again, MIDI cycled off.

I ran steps 5 & 6 three times, and 7 & 8 three times, and could not get the MIDI to cycle off after releasing the drill trigger when it was started with the MAN button on the control panel or on the remote button.

So the short answer for a drill shroud is to get the remote button for the hose end and use that to turn the MIDI on and off, or use the control panel if you can get to it.  The remote button is a $40 answer, but usable for so much more than this limited situation.

Also, I see now that the drill in question was plugged in to the MIDI.  I'm not surprised that the corded version shuts off the MIDI when the drill stops; there's no true "Manual" mode on the new MINI/MIDI.

So not just the Systainer was made worse... the CTL's too. I might just return this ridiculous thing on their 14 day warranty. That new control panel is probably bloated with firmware anyway... so they should have not chosen to make it act in a way that makes no sense or at least given the user the option.

And yes drilling happens corded and cordless. But even if I use a cordless drill, I still don't want it to turn off when the battery charger that is attached to the CT finishes...

I don't have anything with Bluetooth and definitely am not gonna buy a €40 remote to work around something they messed up. I also share my vac with family that is used to the behavior of CTL 22 and CTL 26... so even if I get used to it, stuff will still drop to the floor.

Or maybe I will call Festool and have this handled as a 'free repair'... see what they have to say about that.

But first I'm gonna check the manual. Let's see if this dumb behavior is excused in any way.

Well... Festool's repair department told me mine is broken and it's definitely not intended this way! So that's a big step up. From 'flawed by design' to just 'defect on arrival'  [big grin]
