What Festools to buy First.

I notice most have recommended the TS55. As you say you want to do furniture making. If that will involve solid timber?  I would suggest the TS75 instead. The midi will be fine, the longlife bag would be a good idea.  If you have the space for a larger CT go for it. But if you need to transport it, the midi is the better option.  [smile]

The main reason I chose Festool is for dust collection that help me in my miniature workshop. If you already have a shopvac, you can buy the TS55 only and connect it to your shopvac (with adapters). If you don't have one, skip a month and buy the tracksaw at the same time as the Dust extractor. Domino would be my third choice (And actually was my third Festool). This tool is really a game changer in my shop.

I would suggest a course, or a saturday job as an offsider.

If you are doing furniture then maybe the tools to make a nice bench, and some chisels and dovetail saw.
But you will almost certainly be needing a table saw, unless you need a lathe.

If you are doing some other type of work then that define "needed" rather than "wanted".
Unless you know what exactly you want to do, it may be best sort that out first.

You can hardly go wrong with a tape measure and hand tools, and it is easy to have a spend-up on them too.

You could watch some timber framing videos...  [unsure]
