What have I let myself in for

ah reminds me of Southampton boat show 3 years ago went on Sunseekers biggest boat apart from the super 1 and came out with some snags, when the model asked me what I thought when we came off, I gave her my snag list (I wasn't being picky either because anyone can find fault with anything) in front of quite a lot of people  I think if she could have punched me she would have! ::)

No problem ,happy to help.I know what you mean about snag lists ,my whole life revolves around them and the needs of the most demanding clients!

I think I would be a little bit picky if I was spending that much [blink] I wish I had that much spare to spend, do you use much of the green stuff ib work

Yeah, use my T 18 with the installers set all the time also my Carvex  is very handy and RO 90 .just come back from a job in Antigua that place is Superyacht central!! [eek]

now that beats the hell out of where we are going tomorrow,  mind you working in a place and holidaying there 2 different things [drooling]

If its in your back yard or out of the water somewhere place it in a easy to get to place as you will forever curse yourself as there is a lot of leg work in building a yacht, also set it up level and mark out a datum reference line on the inside so all your measurements have a starting point, but you probably know all this so Ill get me coat!

In the local sail club as £190.00 a yr inc the mooring when eventually in the water, the guy bought it off self employed boat repairer, has apparently levelled boat and has set out with a laser a couple of points inside.
Going to get the outside sorted over the next few months as well as work on the house, assistant teacher martial arts, self employed and got to learn to sail.
Need to win the lottery to have some time  [cool]

Andyman learn the tick stick technique.............fast.
It will save hours of time scribing stuff in. I was taught it while fitting out  a cruising barge (as opposed to a narrow boat, much wider) and wish I had learnt it before.

Will try to explain, bear with me as it it easier seen than written...

Take a flat board, ply or mdf, slightly smaller than the area to be scribed, pin or clamp in place.
Take a stiff piece of batten and form a pointy end on it.
Place pointy stick on board so it lays flat and touches, pointy end, against the furthest recess, mark a line on the board along one edge of the stick, then at a point near the end of the line make a mark on both board and stick.
Move stick to another position, draw a line along its edge and mark the board at the point of the "tick" on the stick. Make as many lines and ticks as you deem right for the shape.
Take down the board (or lift it up) lay it onto the material to be shaped and transcribe those points by lining the stick and tick up with the lines and ticks and marking the point.
It is then just a case of joining the dots to get the shape.

If needed secondary marks can be added as long as the board tick mark and the sticks tick mark are annotated accordingly  A,b,c etc.

The technique has been around since before tape measures but rarely used outside boat building.

Rob has described this technique very well but if you want a demo, here is Ticking Sticksa video by Christopher Schwarz that demonstrates the technique.

that sounds easy,I wish I had that idea for a bus conversion I did( never really finished, unless you pay someone)

Cheers Rob will have a look at the video, I do something similar when scribing panels that will be caulked in, basically like dot to dot

Yep, exactly that, dot to dot....hours of harmless fun ;D

The boat builder I worked with said that it was sometimes so accurate it was impossible to fit the bulhead or decking plank as there is no allowance for material thickness! An angle grinder fitted with an abrasive disc works wonders too (60 grit) (hours of not so harmless fun  [tongue])

Two pack filler is a brilliant adhesive to "tack" panels in place that will need glassing in, when it is set, glass tape intermediate sections then (angle grinder again) trim away the excess filler when the tape is cured.

Keep us posted on your fit out.

Will do.
A question started sanding this afternoon with my midi awesome extraction for fine dust with my makita ro 6" sander using 80grit mirka abrasive. Would granat work better and are the festool discs compatible with the makita. I have contemplated buying a ro150 but not sure if it would be more beneficial?

Are you sanding GRP ? as granat is ok on this. the festool discs I think are not compatable with any other DA ,some of the holes line up but not all ,reducing the extraction effect.Used my Granat  p36 150mm discs to do some serious removal yesterday in combination with a Bosch 150 DA ,some of the holes lined up but not all as I said .

Ye grp with some of the gel coat flaking off. Suppose could punch extra holes in the discs
