Andyman learn the tick stick technique.............fast.
It will save hours of time scribing stuff in. I was taught it while fitting out a cruising barge (as opposed to a narrow boat, much wider) and wish I had learnt it before.
Will try to explain, bear with me as it it easier seen than written...
Take a flat board, ply or mdf, slightly smaller than the area to be scribed, pin or clamp in place.
Take a stiff piece of batten and form a pointy end on it.
Place pointy stick on board so it lays flat and touches, pointy end, against the furthest recess, mark a line on the board along one edge of the stick, then at a point near the end of the line make a mark on both board and stick.
Move stick to another position, draw a line along its edge and mark the board at the point of the "tick" on the stick. Make as many lines and ticks as you deem right for the shape.
Take down the board (or lift it up) lay it onto the material to be shaped and transcribe those points by lining the stick and tick up with the lines and ticks and marking the point.
It is then just a case of joining the dots to get the shape.
If needed secondary marks can be added as long as the board tick mark and the sticks tick mark are annotated accordingly A,b,c etc.
The technique has been around since before tape measures but rarely used outside boat building.
