Festool 204924 -D36x3.5m-AS/CT
Festool 204923 -D36/32x3.5m-AS/R

Don't know what the AS/CT and AS/R means.
Looks like the 923 is a reducing hose?
Is there a difference in the tool end of the hose?
Any reason i should get one over the other?
Any compatability issues to keep in mind?

Both are $175

Thank you.

The 204924 is listed on Festool's website as "not suitable for auto-clean", and the 923 is listed "suitable for auto-clean"

I noticed that lately on their websites. I really wonder why a hose would not be suitable for auto-clean.

Not a word from Festool of course why. [member=71429]DerickC[/member] ?

The AC feature relies on the hose presenting a certain resistance - so there is a bit of a low-level vacuum inside the vac the autoclean feature uses.

With a too-big airflow hose like the 36 mm one this pressure difference may not be adequate for Auto Clean to work well-enough to clean the filter.

I would guess even the 36 mm one will be fine if followed by smaller hose or with a tool that provides the needed resistance for sufficient level of vacuum to build-up inside the vac.

Thank you for your inputs.
If i need a 5m or 7m hose that can also handle the auto clean function.. what is my choice? If the other hoses can't handle the auto clean function, then i may be limited to the 3.5m hose? Or would i be better served getting the blast gate and then the regular 5m hose?

All the hoses "can handle" the Auto Clean. There is nothing special about it from the "hose perspective".

It is just that some are better/more suited for it given their diameter/air resistance etc. so the AutoClean feature works better with them - in cleaning the filter properly.

I would say the normal 7m hose should be absolutely fine with AC and will work similar to the 36/32 3.5m hose versus the 3.5m 36 hose may have too low resistance for AC to work optimally.

That said, 7m is a long hose. You may be better off combining a 3.5m 36mm hose on the vac end with a 3.5m 36/32 hose on the tool end instead. You will get additional rotation points in the middle so the combined hose should behave better in use too.

Hi, we routinely hook 2)36mm hoses together w/ planex, one and old 36as and the the planex  hose which is 36mm, btw, the new hoses are sleeved rib hoses. check this guy out. ronaldo brezaron youtube. guy[attachimg=1]

Gah, that poor man having to work on the re-hab of the 7-1/2 floor of the Mertin-Flemmer building.  Bent over like that all day.

I recently got the second type as a replacement for the hose that came with my autoclean vac. The tapered hose has the old style 36mm hose-end. The 36 mm non tapered hose comes with the bajonet-style locking hose-end (and those are the hoses that can be locked start to end)

Wow, that's true. I removed my wrong entry above. I got my info from a couple of large dealer sites that clearly showed photos and descriptions of the 27 mm hose. You can't trust anything you find on the internet these days.

Thank you guys.  That's why you turn to fog and ask the question no matter how stupid it is... and you will always learn new stuff.
So i gather 923 gets the most vote since it has to work with the Auto clean function.
Now the blast gate does not come with the CT36AC probably since it ships with the planex hose. If i go the anaconda route with 923, should i get the blast gate as well so the hose gets stressed less?  Blast gate is a stupid piece of plastic that is $85. At this price point, one would wonder why they would nickel and dime you.
Thanks again folks

You should stop thinking of "The hose stress" as nothing like that exists with regards to autoclean.

As mentioned, the reason large diameter AND short hoses are not suitable for AutoClean because AutoClean need some air resistance in the hose and the short hoses cannot provide the required air resistance.

The blast gate is used to (thorough) MANUAL cleaning once in a while. By closing the vac chamber the level of vacuum which forms allows for a much more violent/more effective manually-initiated cleaning impulse given to the filter.

You should get it if you plan using AutoClean a lot so you can (manually) thoroughly de-clog the filter when AutoClean is not enough. But it has no effect on the AutoClean operation - AutoClean works while the vac is in normal operation/you are working with a tool.  When you close the gate, the vac is pretty much not operational ...

Once you get the vac, it will all make sense.

Remember, it's the same company that shows a plug-it cord coming with the OF2200 in the official pictures.  If you are in N.A. were the products are generally tweaked in some way, you learn to never trust a Festool sourced picture, they don't make images for the N.A. market tools.

On hoses, I'd say they are very confusing no matter what, and Festool really needs some sort of table on the website explaining some of it.  Also doesn't help they they have mix of different hoses, and if you buy the kits in containers it gets very inconsistent.

I beg to differ as my hose can not be locked together and I sure wish it could do so for putting two D36 hoses together. Festool 500684 and it did come with the bayonet on the tool end. If anyone knows the part number for the dust collector end that would allow them to piece together please let me know. I would really like to have a D36 8.5 meter hose length at times.

Hi,part#452894 was the old part w/connecting sleeve493047,I think the new part is204920(58mm) . guy
