What is the difference in the 500949 vs 490656 power cords? They both say 16 gauge. I'm looking for a 16 gauge cord to marry with my vacuum hose but I'm having trouble figuring out which one.

Thanks,
Bernie

500949 is 10m or ~33'
490656 is 4m or ~13'

[member=48572]Shane Holland[/member] while you are at it, would you be so kind to explain the difference between the black and the green plug it cable?

I think one is rubber the other one is PU!?
What are those for?  [thanks]

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what the deal is with the green cables. We only have the black in the U.S. and during my time with Festool the topic of the green cords never came up. Maybe [member=41214]Phil Beckley[/member] can help with that one.

Hi
Yup correct. Rubber for workshop timber trade use. The Green one was developed for Automotive environments and is 'harder wearing so if a car rolls over it no damage would occur to the core from crushing.....

Thank you very much [member=41214]Phil Beckley[/member] !
If I may add an additional question on the matter:

Is there any "dust collection" difference as well?
What I mean is, that the rubber sometimes gets quite dusty with fine wood dust. Would the green differ in this regard?

....the green do 'resist' the dust more......when new the black version seems to attract it. I have some that have been around for a few years and are now very smooth and are 'cleaner than the newer ones as the casing is worn.

Great to know. Now the next question is when is Festool going to offer the better green cord here in the US?!

My guess is that the supplier doesn't have a UL approved cord.

If you are only into timber products [member=58821]ben_r_[/member]  , [member=63474]grobkuschelig[/member]  and [member=29292]Oso Rojo[/member]  don't bother getting too excited about the Green cord. Mine is seldom used because it is significantly stiffer than even the thicker gauge black cord. That is a real pain when sanding, routing and using a TS as the stiffer green cord does not ' flow' away from the tool and consequently, in my experience,  is more likely to get in the way and/or resist the tool movement.

Thanks [member=41214]Phil Beckley[/member]  I did not know that the Green was designed for auto shops, I thought it was just a heavy duty alternative [with issues! ]

Being that I run my cords in TechFlex sleeving along side the hoses, I doubt Id notice much of a difference if the power cord was any stiffer. But its good to note for those that dont do that.

Shane,
Thanks for the info and to all, interesting about the green cords. I've never heard of those before.

Is there an 18ga version that's 10m long?
