hi people. got have my tools stolen a while back and replaced all of them bar my dewalt 18v nail gun. really need a new one but the price in the UK is now over double what i paid for it 5 years ago and don't really want to spend that amount. do i get a compresser and hose fed gun or cordless. pro and cons and help needed.

thanks Luke

i use a compressor and gun but if there is only a little bit of work to do i dont get it out and really wish i had a cordless gun. i had the dewalt but it repeatedly broke.

i want the senco but its too expensive

I am opposite of Dean.  I have a compressor and pneumatic guns, but as far as finish guns I haven't used anything but my Dewalt 18V in the last 6 years.  Had a Paslode before that, but I dropped it and broke it.

Somewhere I thought I heard a rumor that the Dewalt cordless was going to be discontinued.  Maybe our ears to the pavement tool guy Ken can offer some information.  [scared]

If all you need is one gun size, i'd go cordless for the convenience. If you need multiple gauges, I'd go for a small compressor like the Senco PC1010 and buy conventional guns. Maybe get a CO2 setup if you do a lot of small jobs and don't want tomdeal with dragging out the compressor for just a few nails.

my dewalt didn't miss a beat and it got used a hell of alot. read review on senco and it mixed whats the price of the senco. got quoted 400 +vat for the dewalt

Sorry, haven't heard that about the DeWalt guns.  That's one brand I don't make an effort to keep up on.  [big grin]

The Senco 1010 compressor is just over £100 Warren sells them at Toolfest, very nice but only come in 240v. Really quiet running but only really good for brad guns not much use for Framing guns.

For the price of the Dewalt (which I have but don't use much as it's heavy) you can get a cheapo compressor and a nail gun. I put a £75 compressor in a sustainer. It is rubbish but plenty good enough if you are fitting trim and not firing nails every second. You could investigate the new cordless senco nailers which use nitrogen or some other gas and a battery. In the US many people use paint ball tanks but I haven't found a supply source here and you nned a special compressor to fill them I think.
If I were you I'd look at a cheap compressor and then you can have several different gauge guns - I rely like the 23 gauge pin nailer.
Sorry to hear you lost your tools.
Did I see you're in the W mids? You could try Toolsave - they gave me a great deal on my Dewalt.

I have a DeWalt DC628 15 gauge cordless nailer and I like it. I can't criticise its performance at all. But, it's heavy with its 18v XRP battery. I use it solely for hobby use. *IF* I was woodworking for a living and I could afford the extra cost, I'd go with one of the new 18v lithium ion battery driven cordless nailers ~ difference being the smaller and much lighter battery.

If money is a significant concern and a new compressor with nailer is in your future, then the world is open to you with choices. Consider size of the compressor and the nailer both as an important aspect, at least I would.

I firmly believe The Senco 4200 xp is the best gun on the market!!! I've tried them all. When the seals go bad( and they will!) all you have to do is take the back of the gun off take the old cartridge and replace it. All the valves and inerworkings come as one unit and are only 22$. The best part of theese guns are the titanium driver! I buy case hard nails for these, so that I can run crown or base on both brick/concrete, and steel. Try that w/ a cordless.

I bought the Grex 23ga. and 18ga. pin guns (very nice).  Since my sons have a variety of paint ball gun CO2 tanks laying around it seems my next logical step is to get a CO2 regulator/hose kit for my Grex guns -- what are the recommendations for a kit? (preferably online ordering).

No idea, but if Grex can keep that small size and go cordless(well no compressor) , WOW.

Adding the canister I have never done, but some guys here have, hopefully they weigh in. Someone posted a link a few months back I will look for it..

Google jacpac regulator to start.

I have two of the JacPac regulators that are rebranded for Lowes / Kobalt.  I had another one that I purchased used and it went bad right away. I thin it was just defective or abused. The two I currently have have been fine.  They do not see heavy use though.  Overall they work great and let you go mobile and compact with any gun you want to use.

i have a 6l makita compressor and 23/18/16g guns and also a dewalt, i tend to just use the dewalt as its pita setting up the compressor, i want a small quite compressor like 3litre silent thing that i can put in a systainer and carry all at once atm i have to do 2 trips for the compressor and 1 trip with 1hand on the dewalt

only problem is i need a 110v compressor so im really limited to what there is as 99% of uk compressors are 240v [sad]
