What - non Festool - tool / workshop related gizmo/stuff did you buy today?

  • Thread starter Thread starter six-point socket
  • Start date Start date
10' vacuum hose with 3 pair flexible adapter ends.  This is not a sexy item, but all of the sudden my Midi and multiple other shop vacs will interface with my Dust Deputy, all my Festools and an assortment of other brand sanders, routers and my hand held power planer.  Even plugs on to end of my M-18 mini vac.  Not top end quality but nice enough and only $25 on Amazon.

The three pair of adapters can be mix and match configured to fit whatever tool and vac device combination is convenient.  Will solve all sorts of compatibility issues and will make it really easy to include Dust Deputy in vacuum chain.  Fits the end of my Midi hose and can function as an extension if I want to sand on a ladder or whatever.

Ever since taking a couple of classes from Gregory Paolini, I have lusted after a Calavera Toolworks Tobacco work apron. Yesterday I got the package from Michael and as I told him, it is in a single word....Awesome

[attachimg=1]

It fit like a glove immediately and felt broken in.....Woohoo

Really nice apron!
I’d like some more dividers on the lower pockets, and holder/pocket for hammer, folding ruler or other longer items.
I’ve ordered Katz-Moses’ apron, looking forward receiving them, shipped august 15th.. still waiting [blink]

This is a pretty slick item, it was ordered on Jan 5th & I received it today. I'd still consider it well worth the wait.  [big grin] [big grin]

The movement is very smooth and there are detents that allow it to be easily set from +20º to 90º to -20º in 5º increments. The detents also allow it to be set at 22.5º & 67.5º.

Here's a photo of it next to the 2616 square.

[attachimg=2]

And here is the business end of the T-SQ, notice both the squareness of it compared to the 2616 and also the length markings on both items. Parallax error in the photo makes it look like there is a small difference in the two rules but when seen by the naked eye they are both exactly the same.

Bought a Wiha 1/4 socket set came with a set of reg sockets and deep well ratchet extension both metric and imperial.  I need a full set of 1/4 sockets, got them on sale. Listed at $249 got for $109

I seriously looked at that Posi-Lock myself when it was on offer. But it was only available in imperial, not in metric. Too bad.

I got tired of tweaking my back twisting over to switch the DC on where I’ve got it wedged in down low between the bench and mitre station:

So bought an iVac remote control unit.

Spent a few hours figuring out the wiring to bypass the Jet mechanical NVR switch on the DC to plumb it into the magnetic NVR switch on the iVac controller but all good and it works great:

Having done that I now realise I didn’t really need the remote control - just relocating the NVR switch up onto the wall would have done the trick.

Nevertheless it’s pretty handy carrying the remote around to switch the DC on and off as I use the different machines, plus being able to program the off delay to 15 seconds to allow the lines to clear is quite cool.

An opportunity to order a few items along with a couple of Starrett squares from LeeValley resulted in a pair of dry battery operated Orb Lights, and a rechargeable one.

Put to work today attached to a Manfrotto clamp which again was clamped to my windows handle. Swinging the window out it served as a pivoted point to get lighting from. It’s a very handy and useful additional light that can be attached to any 1/4” screw, as the “camera” standard for tripods and such.

Lots of light in 50% lighting mode had my work area lit where I’m removing paint “gluing” wether boards to the window frame I’m about to exchange for new windows.

I think you are going to like that hammer a lot!

But, just like the green stuff it is a slippery slope...  [embarassed]

I started out with a 30 mm version. After that I bought the 40 mm version. And then my wife gave me a fourth Halder. This one was the 80 mm (!) version. I use it with the Fiskars Splitting Wedge SAFE-T for making firewood. With these tools making firewood even becomes fun!  [tongue]

If there were a 20 mm version I might want to have that one too. I think it would be great for the more subtle jobs.

OK, now might be when I have to visit the AA for Halder owners...  [eek]

I use the blue face regularly, but I do agree: it is quite soft. Most of the time I use the MID grey face and the MID super plastic face on the 30 and 40 mm hammers. On the big one I use the HARD nylon face the most.

Nice Hammer - What does the number 30 imply?  I can't find that model (i.e. 30) from KC Tools

Your questions are answered in the 4 posts above yours.

It denotes the size of the faces in mm. The smallest they have is 30 mm, which is great for light taps, but I feel 20 mm would have been even better (it could be used as a wile plane hammer a.o.). My most-used one is the 40 mm. That gets used for almost everything. Except for driving nails and stuff like that. There is also a 50 mm face. Then you have an 80 mm face, which is more like an over-sized mallet. That things weighs almost 3 kg! If that isn't enough: the 100 mm comes in at more than 5200 grams. The 80 mm actually is really nice. The 100 mm is too large and heavy for me. I have no use for that beast.

DTD154.  5th or 6th most powerful impact on the market.  not bad realy, considering i was used to the 152....

Bought a WIHA wrench set both metric and imperial, bought another wiha wrench set with ratcheting box end, also got WIHA metric 1/4 socket set and 3/8 socket set both standard and deep well.

Not bought today, but they arrived a couple of days ago:

Every once in while I have to a cut a bunch of m3 screws to length, to (re)install wall outlets and light-switches after the plasterer is done. With the screw shearing holes I don't need to deburr the threads.

On a job where we were remodeling a workshopspace in the backyard into a guesthouse, there was a fellow tradesman that was hired to build a patio cover, he had those and let me borrow them to try, and I liked them.

This was in Oktober, and it took untill the beginning of januari to get in stock at the German webshop, I ordered the cable shears just because, I had to pay shipping anyway, and these were 18€ and a comparable version by knipex is about 50€. (but those weren't in stock, and had an expected delivery time of a few days, which turned to over a month)

The 5 mm at the tip are for flush cutting (like those mini-sidecutters with a single bevel grind). I also tried the loopturning thingy for fun, and the crimping feature works just like the  one on the knipex installation pliers, but it presses a few ridges into the top of the V-shape.

[member=1993]Frank-Jan[/member] Could you please share where you found these?  [smile]

I’ve had two of these for years, I love them. They are so versatile and practical.
I’ve been looking for more from the Orbis brand. I supposed they had more innovative tools, but then they vanished here. Haven’t seen one despite searching before your post now.

One of my most guarded hand tools [big grin]:
