I picked up these two beautiful slabs of Black Acacia and I'm not sure what to make. They were to nice to pass up.

I see them as:

1) a centre piece for a dining table, maybe put candles or some other ornament on them.

2) a base for a pen holder or letter rack.

3) a backing/plaque for a house name.

4) a backing for an over-sized thermometer/barometer in a weather station for your home.

Natural edge photo/picture frame?

Personally (no sure of the exact size) I'd be tempted to throw that on the bandsaw (slice into veneer) and get a few small cupboard or draw fronts .. You could get some nice book leaved sets out of a grain like that.

You could also use it as a decorative centre for inlays.

I like the center piece idea.  The veneer idea is what I was thinking but I don't have a bandsaw right now. I hoping to get one this year.  Maybe I will have to wait until I get my bandsaw.  The pieces are about 8"w x 4'l x 2" thk.  I could get a good bit of veneer from that.

2" thick [eek] ... you could almost make baseball bats out of those!

Keep them till you can harvest all the value, wasting all that grain in lumps for no good reason would be a crying shame!!!

Thanks [member=13058]Kev[/member] but I think I will pass on the bat idea.

Join it into a slab to use as a top for a shallow-depth side table.  2" thick is awesome.

I'd put it together something like this:

Please post what you end up doing.  Last month I got a similar sized board -- the offcut end of a larger walnut slab my lumber guys gave me for $30.  I prepped it for a small side table, but am unhappy with how the base looks (will maybe post a picture later when I get home).  So I'll be curious to see what you come up with.

Edward that is a nice board.  I like the idea of a table but I want make something for my wife.  We don't need any tables in our house.  A small sofa table is what I thought initially but I don't have any room for that either.
