What to buy next?

I have the TS55 track saw and the Domino, what should I buy next, the MFT3 or the 1400 EQ router?

I think both items would be high on most people's list of tools to buy. I bought a drill first, then a saw and extractor (I assume you have one of these, if not I would get that next). I then got an OF1400 followed by an MFT3 within a month. Some people advocate a 2 router set up with an OF1010 plus OF2200. I suppose one advantage of buying the MFT3 first is that you can defer the decision on which router to buy for a short while.

If you don't already own a router the decision is easy, and if you do own one it's also easy!

I got the mft3 first, the clamping system does make working with the router and other tools easier, but it depends on how much you use the router(i have the 1400 and it really is a nice tool to use),if you work on site, the mft3 is really usefull, but if you`re in a workshop and already have a workbench set up,i would get the router first and adapt the bench for using the festool clamps(maybe buy the replacement mft top for about £50 and set it into your bench)
But that`s just my oppinion :)

If you haven't invested in a CT, I'd put that high on the list.

Unfortunately you'll discover there's only "and" when it comes to buying Festools, never "or"  [wink]

Obviously both the mft and of1400 are useful in different ways and benefit or which comes first depends on your projects, but if it's just a question of sequence, I'd get the mft next as you'd get a lot of utility combining the TS and the mft.

I personally would get the MFT/3 first -- this adds another element to cutting with your TS saw, making it even more useful plus you get a great table for so many other things, even to make using your Domino easier.  The MFT/3 is my most used Festool, followed by one of the CT's.  In fact these two tools are so important in my workflow I ended up adding an additional MFT/3 recently so that I have two of them as well as another CT to make portability, configuration, etc... easier.  This is not to say that the routers are not great, because they are, but for the work I do the MFT/3 would be more important.  Of course if you have a dedicated cutting table or place to use these other tools then this might all go out the window in which case the router might be a better choice.

So very true... [big grin]!  And of course there are a number of us that will cheer you on with each and every acquisition.

The dual MFT setup I have has proved exceptionally useful, especially paired with the TS55. I do a lot of projects where exact alignment is required. The MFT with Qwas dogs gives me that alignment.

I sorely missed a solid woodworking vise when I replaced my old bench with the MFT twins. So I added an extension that supported my vise and gave a tremendous boost to the MFT stability. I can now hack away with my hand saws to my heart's delight without any movement whatsoever.

Hi,

    Welcome to the FOG!  [smile]

What do you currently have for a router and  or a workbench? That may influence which to get first.

Hi Birdhunter,
Would like to see photos of your MFT extension and vise.   [popcorn]

Thanks, Dick

I also have the CT22 dust collector and the T18 drill.  So the question remains, the MFT3 or the Router first.  I currently have 3 other routers.

Without knowing what kind of work you want to do and what equipment you already have (non Festool included), any answer is kinda pointless.

MFT/3, hands down.

If I didn't already have a router, the 1400 would be ordered and in the mail. A router is the most versatile "saw" a carpenter can own. I use my routers far more for cutting than shaping. It also drills a very nice hole.
