hi guys , need some advice. long story short . thieving scumbag ba#/#/ds broke in to my garage and stole about 50% of my tool. i had tool insurance and they are paying out. just need some help on what to get.  on my list list :

of 1400  has it got the power to cut worktops {i fit around 10 sets a month when I'm busy}or do i get the monster festool make {don't know the name}

cxs or c12 or c15. iv got a t18+3 i love it but need a second drill.

thinking of the mft3.

ts55 or ts75

~ also got to get a new sds and a second fix pin gun ~

any advice would be great
cheers guys and hope you can help [crying]

Luke,

The OF1400 is powerful enough to do worktops, but only just - if you're doing 10 sets a month you'd be better off with the OF2200, which will be a lot quicker.

WRT the drill, if you have a T18 already, I'd say you have two options - 1. get a second T18 so you can share the same batteries, or 2. get the CXS. I don't see any advantage to getting a C12 or C15 - they're close enough in ability to the T18 but if you're going to have different batteries you might as well get the CXS instead, then you have a small lightweight for general stuff & a big beast for when you need a bit more grunt. Hope that makes sense.

yo johnny rb. thanks for the reply, with the of 1400, do you think it will  cope with the work load I'm going to give it. just looked at the price of the 2200. bit of a shock.

I got the OF1400 to do worktops, and it will do them but really it's at the limit of it's ability. I was only doing a couple of kitchens a month though. Yes, the OF2200 is very pricey, but if you are doing a lot of worktops & you got the 1400, I think you might regret not going for the 2200.

Are you aware that the 30-day money-back guarantee is now available in the UK? My recommendation would be to buy the 1400,give it a couple of weeks & see what you think. Then at least you have the option to take it back & swap it for the 2200 if you think you need to.

you are the only one who can answer most of these questions.

of1400. a bit slow but gets there. what is the dc like on the of2200. did you use you router for smaller jobs where thet beast would be a problem.

ts 55/75. what thickness did you cut before. if you are a kitchen fitter mostly i would say the ts55 as most worktops are 40mm or less.

mft. how do you work at the moment. will this enhance or ruin you work style

sds. how much drilling do you do. maybe a smaller cheaper one might do you , allowing money to go somewhere else

pinner. you use the word pinner so i presume you mean a compreesor version , maybe 23g or 18 g. if so i would reconmend bostich as they have a good reputation and a 7 year warranty [smile]. if its a corless model maybe one of the paslode monkeys can reconmend one.  [poke] [poke] jmb

Seems to me that this is a frequent reoccurring question that may be Festool should put together a starter package. Like a TS55, Guide rail, Parallel guides, CT26 Vac, MFT/3 table, OF1400 router and a RO 90 sander.

OR what ever makes the most since as a starter package.

Plus maybe a sticky topic the covers the subject.

Haahaa cheeky!

I would go with the new bostich cordless  instead of paslode crap!  Or maybe take a risk and try the new Senco gun! LoL. Then let me know if thats any good!  Heehee!   But really the bostich has a good reputation with air powered nail guns and I have had a look at the new cordless ones and looks well built that's my next buy after my paslode goes!

I would go for the OF2200 nice router best router I have ever used!  Lovely!

You will love the MFT!  You won't want to use normal trestles again!  For cutting work tops it's mint cus so easy to clamp it down so while you router a small piece it doesn't try and slide or tip.   I use to carry set of trestles and MFT but now unless like doing roofing floor joists. I just take my MFT with me leave my trestles cus I never got them out of my van so where must a waist of space.

I would go with the TS55 a much nicer saw to use.  It runs alot smoother you can work alot quicker and you don't need to clamp the rail as often with the TS55  with the TS75 runs less smoothly and being bigger you knock/move the rail more easily.
I hardly ever use my TS75 but it is a handy tool to have for those job the TS55 can't handle or cut.

Cordless SDS or corded?   I own the .milwuakee corded and cordless.   The corded is very good best used for it's size and type alot of power!  I have only just recieved my cordless version 2day so not sure what it's like but first impressions are good!

Well you know how it works you keep your dealer happy he gives you that little more when you buy a few tools next time!  Well rexy appreciates it.

You got it Jmb I always try and get people to use my dealer.  Iv  had some rather good deals because recomendations.

i always use the same dealer if i can for everything (very luck i have a tool dealer and hardware only 6 miles away) i have bought from rexcrystals in the past. good service just as jmb said it would be. i used him for a few t loc systainers as he had the cheapest shipping 9euros companed to 40 euro for axminister and over 100 euro from d and m tools. also the uk is (soon not to be ) cheaper than the rest of europe

lol Of course! I wouldnt recommend him other wise! Would look bad on me!

Im same with jobs!  Had to turn some jobs down not so long ago cus they wanted it NOW and I didnt have time so they asked if I knew some one!  but I only knew 2 joiners I could trust and 1 is okay but works hard and tries his best the other is a good joiner all these other joiners I would be to embarrassed to pass work onto as I feel their work would reflect bad on me! Cus if they did a poor job the person who asked me if I knew who could do the job would think my standard of joinery must be the same.

I agree with the above posters about getting the OF 2200 instead of the 1400. If you need a smaller router for other stuff, you can always get an OF 1010 in the future (by Festool standards the OF 1010 is inexpensive). Also the CXS makes much more sense.

TS55 is in most cases sufficient, only reason I can see for getting the TS 75 is if you realy need the extra cut depth (for what?) or if you plan on using it as a table saw in the CMS. Other then that go for the TS 55 (lighter, cheaper, cheaper blades).

For nailers I use a Senco Finish Pro 18G, its very reliable. I can't realy comment on other models as I have limited experience.

For the SDS drill it depends. If you want a battery version you might want to get one that works with your existing batteries. I use a DeWalt 18V (DC212 - works well for smaller jobs) since I also have a DeWalt 18V impact driver. If you don't need to match batteries or need a chorded drill you have many options. If you don't want to spend too much I recommend a blue Bosch (one of the GBH models).  If you want the best possible and don't mind the price I strongly recommend a Hilti SDS drill. Hilti also has the widest range of drills available. I have an ancient Hilti chorded, it never fails. Hilti is to drilling what Festool is for woodworking: top of the line. It's expensive, but you'll only have to pay once  ;D
