What to do with 2/3 of a 1080 table top?

I have a 1080 and a new found interest in using it after watching a Paul Marcel's dog alignment video.

Anyway, my table top has seen some use and I wanted to start fresh so I ordered a new 1080 top.

One side of the table is pretty cut up and the other side is decent except for about 12 inches of one side that looks like it got some moisture damage.

That said I have 2/3 of a 1080 table that is pretty nice and would like to build something out of it.

Looking for ideas !

Cut it down to the MFT 800 size and sell it as a spare to an MFT 800 owner [wink]

Why not make an extension to the MFT off of one side?

It would be pretty easy to fabricate a bracket with carriage bolts and knobs that could slide into the side rails and use an outboard set of legs that could be adjusted up and down to give you incremental capacity off the side and still allow you to use all your clamps and accessories.
Make a simple frame out of 2x2 or go all the way to 8020 aluminum material if you want.

You might need to regularly fasten something at an exact position on your MFT? In that case you could fasten your "thing" on the small board and position it with dogs through the holes in both the MFT and the small board. As an example. I have a similar setup for fastening my Incra LS Positionier.

Or you could rout/cut a strip from the small board exactly straight by referencing from the holes. Then you can fasten your strip on your MFT with through dogs and voila - a fence that sits perfectly straight where ever you put it.

All good ideas guys.  Thank you.

Not sure what I am doing you but I am going to put that CNC accuracy to use somewhere.

Did get my new 1080 top installed. So all new again !

Cleaned it all up with a small brush and 409 and looks great.

Almost embarrassed to admit I used it when I built the steel railing for my new house. Did all the welding on it.  Everything was TIG welded so no splatter but still was a mess.

Thanks again to Paul Marcel for the video that got me enthused about using it again :)

I pocket screwed two 6" high vertical panels along the underside of a small replacement top (MFT 800 size) to raise it up a little, and use it for on site work. can be used on the ground, tabletop, floor, client's persian rug, wherever. with qwas dogs and rail dogs, it makes a decent 90 deg cut system. height is matched to a systainer 1 so i can place the systainer anywhere off to the left to support any length board. screwed a handle onto the underside too so its easy to carry. actually made an entire cabinet on the sidewalk in front of the apartment using it a while back(!) If you do work on site or do installations, this use for extra MFT top is very cheap and effective and may be worth considering...

oops correction above- the supports are the height of the systainer, minus 3/4 or 19mm for the mft panel. approx 6", or maybe more like 4 1/2 or 5(?)..
actually i reduced it a few mm further so a shelf liner sheet (rubberized mat) can be used under the tool box to hold it in place, as they slide around so much on smooth surfaces..
