What's wrong with this picture? (Winner by "TKO" Tom B.)

You need to be careful with the stainless, it is soft and rounds easily. Snap-On makes special sockets and wrenches for stainless fasteners.

All are now ss HEX

The Prize?

A set of the fasteners.

They are not hex heads, they are allen socket heads. You insert an allen key into them to turn them. Thus, a socket allen. A hex head is raised and a wrench or socket works against the flats or points, depending on the broach of the device. The height of the head is equal to the diameter of the bolt.

Tom

They are These.

As your link shows, socket head allen screws.

These are hex bolts/screws;

Good to know.  Thanks

If I didn't make myself clear you are 100% correct about the fasteners.
I throw around "hex" incorrectly.

That's interesting, I now live in SB IN  [cool]

I was in South Bend last week end. My youngest daughter lives there. Was taping her basement. Her future ex-fiancé is sanding it by hand. I could have let the Planex and CT, not sure if I like him that much yet.

"Future ex-fiancé"  That's a good one.

I have two kids that are seniors at Purdue
My daughter is a Bio major
My son is a nuclear engineer
My in-laws live in west laff too

This brings up an interesting, although pedantic point...

The term "bolt" is normally defined as a fastener with threads that tightens in an assembly with a nut.

The term "screw" is normally defined as a fastener with threads that "screw" into something that isn't capable of twisting as the fastener threads, e.g. machine screw, wood screw, sheet metal screw, etc. One piece of evidence whether or not it is a screw or a bolt is if the threads go up to the head.

The two are often used interchangeably...

I have spent a LOT of time in, and really enjoy the part of Big Bend National Park just south of Tornillo Creek. Tornillo is screw in Texican. Luke got my mind dumping...

Tom

EDIT:
Added detail about how to tell the difference in screws and bolts.

Allen, not hex , right.   [doh]

Same kind of thing with screwdrivers , ever say flat  instead of slotted?  I hear that a lot.

Congratulations lemnothim on a great little knowledge quiz. This must be a first, surely, where 95% plus of the list of recent posts is just one topic.  [big grin] [eek]

Stainless and alloy together will also react and it's the alloy that will lose the fight. Not likely a show stopper here, but worth noting.

Call them a flat head screwdriver all the time. Flat head is the correct name.

"Future ex-fiancé"  That's a good one.

Think about it--when they get married- he's an ex-fiancé (moves up to future ex-husband)- if they break up- he's an ex-finacé. If everything stays the same well.......

Son did the electrical engineering thing at Purdue.

Tom

I get called a flat head all the time.  Not sure why because it looks XXL in the mirror.

Anyway I have a bunch of extra fasteners for the items in the picture.
If anyone would like some I'll fill requests from PM's until they are gone.

I think Tom is correct.  The fastener has the slot in it, not the driver.

The common name for the fasteners Luke used is allen, the proper name is hexagon socket head cap screw. There are also spline socket head cap screws.

A screw with a slot is properly called slotted.
