Where is the built in electronic calculator for the Kapex?

Hi all,

I'm trying to work out by how many degrees I need to adjust my Kapex and I've been following the instructions in the supplemental manual.

I have punched my numbers in to the calculator in the supplemental pdf and it just comes back with zero. I am trying page 25 of the  Kapex Supplemental Manual PDF    Is this the right place?

My numbers are left 3.74 right 8.37 length 263 and it gives me 0.00. The numbers are all in mm, but it says you can input mm or inches.

Any help would be really appreciated.

The calculator in the PDF doesn't do anything for me too, it just returns zero whatever I put in it. I use Foxit Reader instead of Adobe Acrobat, so maybe that's why it's not working for me.

But I used the formula above it with your measurements and the answer I get = -0.2521789

I'm glad it's not just me, although I was using Adobe Acrobat.

I don't see that Tom is online right now.  The advantage of the 5 cut method is that it compounds the error by by 4X so that it is easier to measure and then have the information on hand to make the adjustments.

Neil,
The purpose of the 5th cut is for accuracy by ensuring the cutoff to be measured has straight edges on both sides.  The supplemental manual describes the 4 cut method however, this assumes your starting edge is straight and the manual does state this.  The fifth cut just makes sure that is true.  Whenever I feel the need to check calibration (not very often with quality tools), I always use the 5 cut method.

Every time Adobe releases a new version of Acrobat they seem to strip away some functionality and dumb it down. I don't have the newest version of Acrobat, but are they now forcing PDFs to be displayed in a browser instead of directly in an Acrobat window?

As for Chrome, it could be that Chrome has its own built-in PDF viewer that is not truly an Acrobat viewer. This is the only reason why I can think of that on the same computer it will work in IE but not in Chrome. Otherwise it should have been using the same external plug-in.

The calculator uses java script and was created with Acrobat Professional 6. I just looked at  it with Acrobat Pro 8 and I'm not even sure whether I could create it any more. Even though the new versions still support the use of java script, it seems like they are stripping away the ability to create or edit it. Acrobat Pro 4 was the most powerful version they ever had for creating and editing PDFs, and every version since then has removed some of that functionality.  [mad]

I adjusted my Kapex 120 and I ld like to understand if the result is acceptable; it's impossible to' me to' use the online calculator.
If  someone can make the calculation  to' me to' understand if now Kapex is correct.
Word lenght 148 millimeters, Left 11,7 millimeters, Right 12 millimeters.
Checking with a squadre seems to' be perfect, but I wait for your help.

If your left and right measurements are not exactly the same there must be an error and the Kapex needs to be adjusted.

When I put your measurements into the formula I get -0.0290346

That is a miniscule error.

Since the adjustment must be made by hand I doubt you will ever be able to get it 100% accurate.

What PDF viewer and version are you using?

Are you using a mobile device?

If so what mobile device and app are you using?

Mobile devices have limited capabilities and not all devices and apps can process Acrobat forms let alone the JavaScript.

For Apple iOS devices try PDF Expert or Adobe Mobile Reader and for android devices qPDFNotes, ezPDF Reader or Acrobat Mobile Reader. I have verified that the calculator works with qPDFNOres, ezPDF Reader and Acrobat Mobile Reader on an android device.

Are you viewing using Goolge Chrome or Fire Fox?

Both have their own version of a PDF viewer and they both are not fully functional with Acrobat forms or portfolios.

Do not clear the form or enter zero for the length or one will receive an alert about a incorrect format. This is caused by division by zero.

Unless you are using PDF Expert I would doubt that your app can process JavaScript needed for the calculation. It uses a special JavaScript object for the trigonometry in the calculation.

wow's calculator uses a spreadsheet rather than a PDF. So the numbers app for the ipad would be the program to use.
