Which 5 meter hose?

I have two 3.5 meter hoses (older style 27mm and 36mm). When cutting down full sheets of plywood I sometimes run out of hose. I've also had problems with the 36mm hose coming out of the track saw mid cut...it's also kind of stiff and wants to shift the track saw. I've gone back to using the 27mm hose with the track saw and getting great dust collection.

Which 5m hose should I get?

Is the new barbed fitting compatible with the older tools (TS-55 track saw and sanders)?

The new bajonet fitting is compatible with older tools, no problem. But I believe for some older tools like the TS-55 it is possible to order a new dust port with the bajonet lock.

As for the hose, you complain about the TS-55 running out of hose, and DC is best with that saw if you have a 36 mm hose. That hose does not fit the sanders though. If you want a hose that works with all tools, get the 27. But if you want best DC on the tools that create a lot of wood chips like the saws, routers and planers, get the 36.

The modern hoses are more flexible than the older types and have a smooth sleeve. Downside is they weigh quite a bit more.

Can you place the DC near the center of the long side of an 8' sheet?  I am thinking that you currently have the hose come from one end.

In any case have a look at 204922. 5m tapered 32mm vac end to 27mm tool end. Plenty of suction for the track saws, sanders etc.  If you will be using it for a router (or HL850) a lot then the D36 is a better choice but 32/27 will still do the job. The smoothness and flexibility of the new type hose is excellent.

Personally I don't find the added weight of the new type hose to be significant in use. I don't have an exact pair to compare but I weighed a 3.5m D27 old type at 28oz. and a 3.5m  32/27 new type at 35oz.

Can you not join them so that you have the 36mm at the vacuum end, and the 27mm at the tool end?

You just need to replace the fitting on what would have been the vacuum end with a tool end.

That’s what I did.

True. Interchangable.

So 794 vs 992 gram
Still 25% more
But the extra weight is probably compensated by it not hugging the edges like the older hoses.

I can see how the smooth sleeve is a benefit for not catching edges.

But for me it is no use, as 90% of the time I have a sander connected and I find the new hose a lot more cumbersome and it restricts my movement compared to the old hose. I am thinking of removing the sleeve, but it pains me to modify a tool to the point of destruction.

You want to trade hoses ;)?

When I say the weight is not significant (to me) I don't mean that it is not a significant jump in measured weight, I mean that I don't really notice it in use.  I think the far better handling is well worth it.  Often when the new type hoses are discussed, the flexibility and smoothness are the take aways. The  other factor that is frequently lumped in with flexibility (but is really not the same) is lack of memory.

I think I might have a slightly shorter straight D27 in the new type. If so, I will weigh that for a slightly better comparison in weight increase rather than the tapered hose.  Maybe I can get a weight per 'X' length.

Factors as to whether or not the weight matters will be hose length, use up a ladder, duration of use, hose support (boom arm), etc. In general my guess is that most people will forget about the weight difference once they try the new type hose.

There is a 36-27mm coupler just use it. 36 at the ct 27 at the tool and the coupler I between.https://www.festoolproducts.com/fes...ping&msclkid=eac2dbbcc8a717866db884284602c2cd

Straight D27 3m from the CT-SYS is 24oz. in the new type.
