Which Domino should I buy? 500 or 700

There is a lot of variation on this topic, it comes up periodically.    Some prefer one over the other, some have both.  Clearly not a single answer.

I have the XL700 with the senica adapter, TSO BigFoot, and Ramon Dock.  This works well for what I do.  Beside using it for dominos, I have also used it to make mortises to allow for wood movement when securing a table top to a frame.

I also think the XL700 was designed after the 500, and has better ergonomics and features like dual depth settings and ability to change mortice with without running the tool.

I own both and prefer the features & ergonomics on the 700 over the 500.

However, I use the 500 85% of the time and prefer it because of its lighter weight.

“ features like dual depth settings”

Not sure what this means. I know the 700 has two mortise width settings as the 500 has three.

Or a 3rd option is the DDF40  It bridges the gap of the 500 and 700 and offers a wide variety of dowel sizes all the way from 3mm to 12mm and up to 40mm plunge almost twice as deep as the 500 yey it is still compact like the 500. One area it isn't so great is narrow stock but for doing cabinets and table tops it would be perfect for.  I own a 500 and while I like it IF I had to choose only one to keep I would keep the DDF40
