Hi guys I registered here a while ago but this is my first post. I'm a general carpenter and tend to do quite a variety from 1st fix to fitting reception desks in offices (currently working on one in a university library. I want a festool drill driver but don't know which. I already have a ccd12fx and I'm looking for something with a bit more grunt. I want an 18v I've been using dewalt 18v for years and currently have a hilti 22v li ion drill but it's far too heavy and is giving me problems in my hands after prolonged use. I'm a bit confused by the quaddrive the combi one says it has an impact feature but is that the same as an impact driver or is it a hammer feature for drill brick etc.

Any way any opinions/advice welcome.

It's a hammer drill function for drilling brick etc.  The best thing to do is get your hands on one at a local dealer and see if it's suitable for your needs.

As said, the quad drive is just a hammer action drill not an impact action.
It's a bloody good Combi mind and having dealt with Dewalt and makita for over ten years it's actually one of the best hammer action cordless (bar sds) I have come across.
Do you want your new drill for masonry drilling or just general screwdriving?

Now own up Matt; who's using a phone or tablet for posting that has autocorrect switched on?  [poke]

I don't think you can choose purely on battery voltage.

I have a couple of 18V Makita drill/drivers and an 18V Makita impact and I feel my T15 and Ti15 (which are 14.4V) are way more powerful.

The little CXS, despite it's 10.8V, is also a very capable drill driver.

The best thing you can do is visit a dealer where you can try them, or find someone who might be able to let you get your hands on one.

Whereabouts in the UK are you?

Ok! Hands up. iPad I'm afraid!
You can sit and take over the world on one, but not post on the FOG!

I agree and am surprised as a drill driver the 15 and 12 volt Festool machines tick a lot of boxes.

Just redone my last post, might make more sense now!

I love my C12.  It has good power and the battery holds up good.

I was in my local dealer today and they were not too helpful. They're also £90 more expensive than online. I have used hammer on my other drivers but very rarely it's not important but if there's not much difference in price I'd take the combi. It is pretty much screwing and pilot drilling I'd be doing, Boring mortise locks etc.

What's the difference between the T18 and the quad drive then other than hammer option?

I've held the quad drive and it's nice and light compared to my hilti (incidentally my hilti is on ebay right now if you fancy it)
But not actually used it in anger.

I'm in fife Scotland

Both come with the same batteries, and the same charger.
Both have the small Centronic chuck and normal 13mm chuck.
Both have battery indicators and light, but the PDC light has to be switched on.
PDC batteries have a rubber surround on the bottom, but this is removable and can also be bought as an accessory.
PDC comes with the usual combi side handle that can be removed.

Both have dial in electronic torque control,1 to 25 on T18 at the back of the machine, 1 to 12 on PDC on top of the machine.

T18 is 2 speed gearbox, PDC is 4 speed, and as mentioned has hammer action on separate on/off switch.

T18 with 13mm chuck and battery on weighs in at 1.92kg and PDC with same chuck at 2.22kg.

The PDC can only be machine or machine and angle chuck not the complete set as the T18 is and also the angle chuck is different, covered in rubber.

Basically the PDC has been designed with more the builder work avenue in mind as its slightly more rubbery.

We do the T18 plus 564494 for £407 and the PDC plus 769194 for £385 inc VAT, cheaper due to last years promo. So if you are looking for something better than your 12v I would say the PDC offers a very good option, especially being cheaper.

Hope this helps.

Whichever drill you go for I would recommend powertool-supplies to buy from. During this last week I received £1700 worth of Festool gear from them and it was (all 4 boxes) carefully packed and the courier they used (Fedex) were very careful with it. I know some would take this for granted but I have had some bad experiences.

+1 and a very similar story this week.

And these were CMS-GE and inserts and fences and sliding table and extension tables and, well, loads of stuff made out of aluminium that it is easy to damage and dent. Now I can't give powertool-supplies all the credit because Festool do a great job with their box and packaging design in the first place, but for smaller items that powertool-supplies pack themselves, they seem to be the Bob Marino of the UK with regarding to ensuring things are well protected and that they're using a good courier for the deliveries.

I had the Hilti 22v combi and sold it, it was a great drill but as you say it was a bit on the large size and i never used the hammer function on it. (i have the Hilti 22v sds) I got the Festool DRC drill. Its lighter and smaller and seems about as powerful as the Hilti..
