Which Dust Bag for my ETS

Hi,

I have an older ETS 125 [attachimg=1]

I don't have a dust bag for it and need to get one.

I have checked the parts catalog on festool website, and I know that the 489129 will fit (The plastic holder which holds a paper bag), but I wondered if the 201693 (the long-life fabric versionhttps://ffx.co.uk/product/Get/Festo...s-4014549269039-Long-Life-Chip-Collection-Bag) will fit my older sander?

Be grateful if anyone knows.

Thanks

Yes, the adapter which comes with the bag, attaches to the sander and then the bag attaches to the adapter. All future bag removals involve the adapter & the bag only.

On the newer sanders the adapter is actually part of the sander.

Sorry if I have misunderstood, so does this mean I can use the re-usable bag or not with it?

Thanks

Reusable bag = yes.

Great thanks! And I can see that the paper ones clearly work with it as well. Now just to decide which to use or if just to connect to extraction.

Cheers

I really dislike the paper ones, the nut needs to be tightened all the time because of vibrations and if you don’t do that, then you’ll lose the knob and the bolt.

With the reusable version, just pinch the 2 ears on the bag and remove it…it’s really simple.

Ok that is good to know, there isn't much difference in price between 5 replacement paper bags and the reusable one so if I go for it I will get that one. I haven't managed to get the sander to work well with my shop vac so far so that is why I am leaning this way, I will keep fiddling for a week or so to see if I can get it sorted but if not then the reusable bag it is.

Can you further explain what the issue is with the shop vac? I can almost guarantee the bag won't do any better.

I just cannot get consistently good results (without swirl marks).

Initially I had problems using granat but was sanding epoxy + wood and ended up convinced it was just inexperience and the difficulty working two materials at the same time.

Tried all sorts, started with cheap non-festool brand pads, then changed to granat in the hope that would fix it, now been trying Granat Net.

Most recently I’ve only been sanding birch ply, thought my trouble was sorted as it hadn’t been apparent, but then I noticed at about 200 grit the swirl marks came back!

I’ve tried adjusting suction, I can only adjust using holes in the suction hose, but I’ve significantly reduced the suction to no avail! Maybe I haven’t reduced it enough I don’t know! I have been reducing it at the vac end rather than the tool end, whether that makes a difference I don’t know either.

It’s all been rather frustrating!

Might still be sucking too hard. Today's shop vacs are very powerful. Further reducing suction may be in order. Maybe install some pipe at the vac end and cut a section out to vent. Find a safe way to cut the extra pipe lengthwise and heat it some to slide over the pipe inserted inline, which gives you variable suction.

Do you clean the material after every grit change? Leaving the courser grits behind can cause swirling.

There are some great videos on sanding, and sandpaper put out by Festool.

The small ETS doesn't need a lot of suction and it doesn't like a lot of suction, my CT 22 is turned down almost all of the way. I also vacuum between grits if the application is critical. I vacuum with a brush because it's physically sweeping and vacuuming at the same time pretty much guaranteeing that every particle is removed.  When changing grits you may want to vacuum the pad on the sander before mounting the new abrasive disc.

For most finishes all this belt & suspender stuff isn't necessary but if you're working with epoxy or want to create a piano finish, then everything counts.

I had real trouble with the epoxy, but like i say i moved away from that to make my learning curve more simple. I am not trying to do anything particuarly special, the last thing I sanded was just some birch ply to 220 grit. even doing that I had trouble with swirl marks. I will try and reduce the suction even more, and I will make a point of vaccuming in between pads I have one of those brush attachments.
