Which Festool hose?

I have decided to insert a Festool hose between my non-Festool shop vac and my non-Festool power tools. But which one?

I have more or less ruled out the 27 mm variants, because one day I might buy a Festool shop vac and then I would be stuck with two 27 mm hoses instead of one of each. So I am looking at 36 mm hoses.

There is a tapered version, D36/32x3,5m-AS/R, Item number 204923.
This one is the cheapest, though not by much.

There is also a cylindrical version, D36x3,5m-AS/CTR, Item number 204924.
This one is slightly more expensive than the first one. The web page says "for cleaning tasks with CT dust extractors. Not suitable for dust extractors with AUTOCLEAN".

So this is just for cleaning the shop floor? And the tapered one is for power tools? But the page also says that this one has rotating adapters at both ends. I assume that means swivel joints. That sounds like something aimed for extraction from power tools, not for cleaning a shop floor. The tapered version has no mention of rotating adapters.

And finally there is a cleaning set for tradesmen RS-HW D 36-Plus, Item number 577258.
This one sounds too good to be true. It looks like it contains exactly the same cylindrical hose as the one above, a bunch of accessories and a Systainer M437. But it is almost the same price as the hose alone. I could basically buy this set, throw the accessories away and have a Systainer for free. I can always use another Systainer.

So I guess my choice is between the first and the last option. A tapered hose, or a full set with a cylindrical hose. Any thoughts?

The tools I will be using it with are:
  • Metabo accu track saw, KT 18 LTX 66
  • Metabo corded 125 mm sander, not the same connector as the saw
  • Makita corded palm router, RT0700 (this is my main reason for wanting a better hose, because the stiffness of my existing hose is restricting the free movement of the router)
  • Bosch 12V accu jigsaw and rotary saw

The cleaning set is the best deal. Both the tapered and the cilindrical hoses have rotating connectors. The tapered has a straight rubber connector, like the old style 36mm hoses. The cilindrical one has the connector with the locking grooves inside.

Is the cylindrical also rubber or is it hard plastic? I don't have any Festool power tools*, so proprietary grooves in a hard connecter is probably a disadvantage.

*: Well, I do have this one, but I don't even think it uses the grooves:

The Tradesman cleaning set is the best kept secret bargain that Festool sells. It is the way to buy a 36mm hose.
I have that drill dust fitting too, but I have only used it with a 27mm tool-hose, so I can't tell you it works for sure.

Some time ago, I did the math on the cleaning sets and the Floor Cleaning Set came out way ahead on bundle vs. purchasing everything separately. It has the stainless wands and the metal floor sweep. For anyone using it in a somewhat delicate area, maybe the metal components aren't good. Either way, the cleaning sets are the way to go for the 36/32 hose.

I think it's rubber, I don't have that hose myself, I have a bunch of the older style ribbed hoses, both in 27mm and 36 mm, only the tapered one that came with my CT26 autoclean vac is the smooth kind.

For best compatibility with other tools I would get the reducing sleeve aswell. Link

For some reason, they seem to change this around fairly frequently? The set I have is older (obviously) in a T-loc, but there are a few other differences. Mine has the metal tubes, but the floor head is different from both of the kits available now. The price difference seems to have grown some too? I know for sure that I didn't pay any $100 more for the metal either.
It's been a few years, I'm not sure I can even find what I paid?
I found the order, but since it is no longer available, no price. Amazon doesn't show the actual invoice, they just want to sell it to you again, so they would only show the current price anyway. (which doesn't exist)
The paper catalog, from a couple of years before, lists it at $245 and the plastic tube version at $176
I'm a little surprised at myself for paying that much more?

Huh, they changed the curved piece back to metal?

Yes the set with hose is a good deal.

That metal floor sweep is $150 value on itself. And I am not joking. It is the best floor sweep out there for shop/professional use. By far.

The metal pipes are also +$30 value. The plastic ones are .. plastic ..so not as stable. Good-enough for 3 pieces, not so much when you need to reach somewhere high and are using 5+ extension pieces. With the metal ones I can connect 9 of them (two metal sets, one plastic set in my case) and reach very high with the contraption while maintaining reasonable stability of the arrangement.

Cost-wise, ideal path way is to buy the "Floor cleaning set" for the metal sweep and extensions. Then add the Standard cleaning set to it to get the plastic extensions, sweep and the brush. You eventually want both sweep versions and both extenstions to get a 2-meter long extension option.

You can place all the kit pieces in the SYS3 437 for transport, so if you sell on/reuse the SYS3 137 that comes with the Standard cleaning set it is a very good value.

I can't imagine selling a systainer. I have bought 8 of them over the last few weeks. Which increased my total systainer collection to 8.

But reuse sounds as a good option.

I have the metal and plastic cleaning sets. Bought each probably at some point on some sort of sale or combo something.
If you were going to buy 1, I would recommend the plastic one. The metal is nice but you don't want that thing banging around a finished kitchen or bathroom. The metal one stays in the shop. The plastic assembly comes onsite.
A seller has a cleaning set posted on chicago craigslist right now for $215. If I needed one ... I have no affiliation.

I got the 577260 50mm hose cleaning set a couple months ago from Hartville on a clearance sale. Seems it was only Hartville that was clearing them out, because they're still on the Festool USA web site. It might actually have been a change in the hose material, as mine is gray rather than green. Hopefully the green one is a little more flexible. Mine is pretty stiff, but I still like it a lot.

I bought it for the 50mm hose, but I'm pretty happy with the massive pipe and oversized ends, too. Might not be ideal for jobsite work, but I love it in my shop.

I also recently got the Festool Y adapter. I hook the 50mm hose to the back of my router table fence and the 27mm hose to the fitting on my Milwaukee trim router and work 90% chip-free.

The green hose in the current Industrial cleaning set is the old style ribbed anti-static hose. It is quite stiff and holds a lot of curve memory. It is definitely not very flexible. I don't know how it compares to the gray D50 but other size gray hoses are more flexible than the ribbed counterparts.

Thank you everyone. I ended up buying the plastic cleaning set, but haven't received it yet.

I am buying this mainly to get the hose and the systainer. I am going to use it for dust extraction in my little garage hobby workshop, and the cleaning accessories will see very little use.

The one accessory which is most interesting to me is probably the little round hand brush, which seems handy for cleaning my table top and work item. That one is only in the plastic set for some reason.

It was in the metal-tube set I bought a few years ago, but that set is no longer available. The brush I find to be the most useful is the diamond shaped one. I think they call it universal.

Good choice. I got this kit a year? ago. It came with the exact same 36mm hose that my CT48 came with.
The vacuum end fits most 2 1/4 slip fit ports, so a lot? of those barrel shaped shop vacs.
The other end fits in the Dewalt adapter for some of their larger tools (tight fit, but you can work it in), and slips over the vacuum ports on my Milwaukee routers.
You can also get a 36 - 27mm adapter from Festool that slides into the end.

The cleaning tools work better on the curved handle vs directly on the hose IMO.
The brush is great, so is the crevice too.

Food for thought/future reference.
Festool does have a larger cleaning set. Both ends of the hose are 50mm/fit 2 1/4 slip ports. And the cleaning accessories are larger 50mm instead of 36mm or whatever the kit you just got is.
The downside is it doesn't come with a systainer. Just the hose and accessories in a cardboard box.https://www.festoolusa.com/accessor...es/cleaning-sets/577260---rs-gs-d-50#Overview
