Which hose?

Currently I have a CT36 with the standard hose it came with. Though I haven't looked closely at it I assume it is the 27mm x 3.5 m hose. I use this hose to connect to all my Festool equipment from the Carvex to the Kapex. I'm looking to the future and perhaps another extractor, which of course will come with a hose. But different options have me wondering…If I buy a stand alone hose now, for perhaps a custom built over arm, which should I buy?

What are the functional differences of the 36mm v 27mm hose? Is the larger hose an offering to increase collection on the tools that generate larger waste such as router or maybe better suited for the quantity of fine dust the sanders make?

In my experience, the 36mm hose does increase the effectiveness of dust collection with the track saws, especially the TS75. With the OF1400 router, sanders, and the Domino, I don't believe the dust collection improves as it is already great with the 27mm hose. Plus, with these smaller tools, the decreased flexibility of the 36mm hose makes it difficult to manage the hose while using the tool. I would imagine that the OF2200 router would benefit from the increased hose size but I don't own that so don't know for sure.

The hose with sleeve is really great. The hose and cord are wrapped in an outside sleeve. Plus the hose is tapered on the end that connects to the tool which makes it much more flexible with no loss of dust collection. It's pricey but seems to be worth it, especially for sanders, the Domino, and the OF 1400.

When you purchase certain CT accessory cleaning sets, they include the larger hose for good reason!  The suction performance in substantially enhanced over the smaller hose that comes with the CT.  For me, this was most evident when cleaning my basement (and shop), as I needed to turn down the suction so the floor tool would not stick to the floor as much.  Another nice thing about obtaining the larger hose with a cleaning set is the extra hose is stored in a systainer (5), while not in use.  The cleaning set I purchased is 497700, Festool Tradesperson Cleaning Set.  Some sites erroneously list the Systainer as the "4", which I think it originally came with.  It now comes packaged in the "5" version.

Get the 36 mm hose all the way, especially with the Kapex and other larger dust producing tools.  There is no downside its all better, then get an adapter or pigtail that's 27 mm for the sanders etc.

I built my own boom arm and used it for a few years, but ultimately it was not as good as I thought.  I finally dove in and got the Festool boom and it has made a huge difference for me.  My vac and boom are now a workcenter and I just ordered the WCR-1000 which I think will help even more.  The boom comes with a 36 mm and 50 mm hose.  Just another one of the Festool - "should have done this a long time ago" moments

For a few years I used the 27mm hose with my CT-22 & boom arm for all my Festools (RO-150, TS-75, DF-500). 

It worked OK but after I got the Installer cleaning set 497700 with the 36mm hose I found the larger hose worked better and moved it to the boom.  I use a pigtail adapter for the tools that take the smaller hose.

As I understand it dust collection is mainly a question of air volume moved per unit of time.  For a 36mm hose the area is approximately 1017 square millimeters while the 27mm is 572 square millimeters, so the larger hose is capable of moving almost double the volume of air.

Sty for digging up old thread. Im just getting my dust collection set up. I have a Fein turbo and i just bought a Oneida cyclone. But the hose it came with does not fit my festool track saw and i assume it wont fit my new 1400 router i just bought today.

My question is will the 36mm fit the 1400 and my track saw? Im thinking ill buy a ro 125 sander too.

How large exactly is the hose you say isn't compatible.

Yes I use a 35/36mm hose on my track saw with a universal end I purchased.  What end s on your hose now?  I am still confused  to what brad hose you have?

Are you asking about the hose that came  with the Oneida? I am watching the Cubs , maybe not paying attention all the way here.

I find trying to use a 36mm hose with a sander to be annoying and often restricting, especially with the small adapter.

Great for cleaning floors and pretty much necessary with a planer.

YMMV.

Can't imagine using a CT with a planer; too high a volume of chips and dust. Even a jointer is borderline. I'm about ready to dump my 36mm hose, which I only use with the the TS55. I use  the sleeved hose for everything else Festool (and any other portable power tools) that the hose will fit. It is the best hose, very flexible and easy to handle, even for floors (unless you have large pieces of wood to pick up).

Always wondered what people used those for? I never felt that any of my work required a handheld planer except for actual hand planes to make adjustments. The 850 (I guess) seems a bit much for minor adjustments nor quite precise enough for cabinets and furniture. What do you use it for? Just curious.

My hose is the one that came with my fein turbo. It does not fit my track saw. I rigged a connection from my fein hose to a plastic sump pump hose i had...it worked but cheesy and involved duct tape!    I wasn't sure if all the Festool hoses ends will fit  all the tools?  I didn't want to buy a FT hose then have to buy 4 adaptors. Ill take some pics and measurements.

You can buy the Festool end , it will fit right on the Fein hose. Festool 36mm fits all 35 mm hoses from Bosch, Fein etc..

Or you  can buy the Fein rubber step adapter. Both ways work. The Fein rubber adapter I use for the festool sanders , it fits over the sanders, for the Festool routers and track saws it fits within dust port. I used to get them for 9.99, they are rubber and you use a blade to cut the proper mark end off..

If you have a 35mm hose this I believe this is the correct Festool end for the routers and tool, someone else can verify that.  I know all my Festool ends fit all my Bosch and Fein hoses labeled 35mm.
