Which Oscillating Spindle Sander would you get?

The Rigid has the two functions and lots of fans. It's a winner for small space requirements and the price has always been good.
I went with the Benchtop Jet Unit, the JBOS-5.
Plenty of power, very quiet, and the spindle selection is a wide range up to 3" diameter if you hunt for that largest drum and its sleeves which is not standard with the machine.
Dust Collection Port is sized for vacuum hose sizes with a 2" port, but I recommend using a 4" adapter to connect the sander to a larger shop DC system if you have one. Dust Collection works very well for me with this set-up.
The table tilts and is easy to adjust.  There are a number of throat/spindle plates for the different spindle diameters that you would end up using.
Downside , not a light unit if you need to pop one up and down for limited table space in a shop. Lots of metal, cast iron top, and an oil filled drive mechanism add to the weight too.
Spindles and plates store on the sides of the sander in factory brackets.

State, Max or a kindt collins.  I have paid under 400 bucks for about 5 that have came through my shop and moved on to happy homes.
I am currently using a State b-4.

Ridged was rated the best by Fine Woodworking, I have one and it works fine, storage system for components on the machine is poor, always want to fall out when you move the unit. No complaints.

The tilt table is designed to be lowered when moving the unit to keep accessory tools in place.

And I suppose you discovered this how -- reading the manual?   [smile]

Learn something new every day, but have no idea how many things I forget just as often ...

While Fine Woodworking did select the Ridid as best overall in part because it be used a a belt sander, they did acknowledge the Delta SA350K (I think that's the model number) for it's dust collection capability.  I value dust collection more highly than having a multiple feature tool with a belt sander that I would never use.

I have the Ridgid and I'm quite pleased with it.

Ron,

How effective is the dust collection on the Ridgid?

Jack

Festool spoils you on dust collection but it's not bad on the Ridgid sander.  There is a port in the back that with a good vac attached does a pretty good job.  Depending whether it's the belt or spindle & how much stock you are removing there will be some cleanup required.

A few months ago, I bought the Shop Fox oscillating spindle sander.  I was pleasantly surprised with how quiet and efficient it was.  A great machine! Dust collection was outstanding!!  I paid $139. Now, it's $180!

...I was so impressed with the spindle sander, that I bought their 12" disc sander.  Although dust collection was excellent, the table wasn't planer and the motor was on the noisy side.  I sent it back and upgraded to the Jet 12" disc sander, which is a superior sander.

Jim that's almost identical to the Woodriver OSS that woodcraft has right now for $130!

Yes, Bob, I think it is.  Some Chinese company is probably just making this one sander and selling them to any company that wants it.

I have the same Jet Benchtop unit mentioned above and it's a great unit with plenty of power and tilting table that stays where you set it.  I also agree that the green machines have spoiled me about what it means to have effective  ;D dust collection
