I received a gift certificate to ToolNut. I would like to spend it on another power tool. My current list of green power tools is:

TS75
OF1010 EQ
Rotex RO90
Rotex RO150
Domino DF500
Centrotec Installers Set
CT-36AC

(I listed the centrotec kit because it's relevant to this question)

If I add some money to the certificate I can buy ONE of the following:

CXS
RTS 400
DTS 400

They are all the same price at $245.

So - which would you recommend to me as my next Festool power tool purchase?

Get the CSX and the accessory kit. The attachments are worth the money.

Which accessory kit are you referring to? Part number?

I have the CXS and love it, but what are your needs, another sander or your first Festool drill?
For a sander, I'd go with the DTS400 over the RTS.

A question for those of you have the CXS:

The picture for the non-kit version makes it look like the drive angle is rather severe compared to the kit version. I can't imagine that the tools are any different, so is it just an optical delusion?

[wink]

CXS and don't look back. That drill is nothing short of amazing. It was driving 3 inch deck screws when my 18v drill died.

I have the complete M12 driver line, and I have a small 1/6 sheet sander that I use for my detail work, so I technically don't NEED either. But since when does that stop anyone from buying another Festoy Festool?

Based on comments here, I've narrowed my choice to the DTS 400 or the CXS. There seem to be a lot of votes for the CXS, but I wonder if anyone who owns it also has the Milwaukee M12 drivers? I use my M12 Fuel Hex Impact Driver almost exclusively and LOVE it!! But then again, that 90-degree chuck for the CXS sure looks like a winner!

Decisions, decisions...

I SHOULD have taken a picture of how my CXS saved me lots of time and grief this weekend. Used the right angle chuck/drive, with no Centrotec chuck on the end since I needed the minimum length sticking out to drive screws for plaster washers above my radiant heating pipe in my basement ceiling.  Popped the short factory Phillips bit into the internal hex shank and the CXS handled the rest. There was not enough room for my T15 with similar attachments to pull that off.  [big grin]

My Milwaukee M12 right angle drill (measured from the face of the chuck to the back of the handle) is 3-3/4" or 95 mm. What is the measurement on the CXS with the right angle chuck?

Edit: Just to be clear, the M12 would fit into a space a little less than 4". Of course that doesn't allow for bit or fastener, but those would be the same for either drill.

Don't have my CXS in front of me, but I'm sure someone else can take a reading or measurement for you.

About 210mm farthest extent front-to-back w/ right-angle chuck mounted.

Tom

EDIT:
I think that comparison is apples and oranges. I think the measurement that is equivalent is about 95mm on the CXS.

I find it interesting that the Milwaukee would fit in a tighter spot - by over a half inch! Of course to use it I'd have to have it, which means another tool to carry if I were going on site. But since I mostly stay in my shop, not sure how big a deal that is?

The 210mm measurement is the equivalent of measuring the Milwaukee (with the battery in) from the end of the battery to the far end of the tool - the longest measurement possible on that tool. I don't have one to measure but it looks like it is longer on the Milwaukee.

With the keyless, Jacob's style chuck mounted on the right-angle chuck, the 95mm measurement is from the tip of the 3-jaws to the back of the right-angle chuck. It appears that the two are the same.

Tom

Going through the same thought process.....  When do I call Tom and what do I talk about?

I'm referencing the Right Angles M12, so the battery really doesn't come into play - unless you're tight in TWO directions?
