Whistling noise with the 27mm hose from the CT MINI

I recently bought both the Midi and the CTL26 and am particularly upset that it is only the Midi hose that whistles.

It is a lovely whistle, reminiscent of my old friend Dai who had no front teeth and insisted on treating us all to the most melodic renditions of Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau....especially after a few pints of the amber liquid.

I was hoping to replicate his magnificent musical interpretation of the Helmholz Resonator principle in stereo, but as only one hose whistles, I will take advantage of the Festool 15 day returns policy and replace the CTL26 with a Whistling Midi.

I wonder if Festool do a Dolby version?

I just dropped a screwdriver through the hose to make sure there wasn't something stuck - there wasn't.  Here are two videos comparing my 27mm hoses.

First is the 27mm hose that came with my CT-26
Second is the 27mm hose that came with my CT-MINI

Notice the whistle?  It's pretty annoying in person.

My CT26 sounds like your Mini. I just try not to run the vacuum for fun.

Worse was the Miele which sounded like the bearing carc'ed it today, which is why I noticed the CT26 was whistling like a turbo spooling up. The vacuum wand and brush off the house-vac do not "Auto" the vacuum on, and I was leaving the CT26 in manual-on when changing floor and dust heads.

If it doesn't make the dogs bark with a tool on it, then it may not be an issue. Or does it whistle with a saw or sander on it too?

Honestly, it sounds like you're getting more airflow from the larger hose but the 27mm tool end is causing restriction and noise.  I suspect if you backed down on the suction so you were getting the same airflow at the tool end, they would sound the same.

Not your hose.  But the newer hose with the sleeve is tapered.

Some people need to study the 2016 Festool catalog.  [tongue]  [poke]    (that was a joke guys.....calm down)

Wow, I had no idea the hose itself was tapered, I thought you must mean the connector.  That must be a manufacturing challenge, I wonder if each length of hose is injection molded instead of a continuous process.

I took apart the hose end to make sure it was tight.  I tried running it while the end was completely off and the whistling was reduced, so it's clear that the connector contributes quite a lot to the whistling.  I also tried running it at different power levels and found that at the top and bottom of the power range it's annoying, but becomes truly cringeworthy somewhere in the middle where it really starts to shriek.  I really don't want to return the vacuum over this, but this is kinda bad.

At about the 20 second mark is when pets and family leave the room.  Here's a video showing the noise at different power levels.

The 27mm fitting on the end of my dewalt anti static hose whistles as well.  I notice this on the Midi but not the CT 36. Only when the vac is not connected to a tool or vacuum wand.

I have a CT Mini and my hose makes the same whistling noise, but if you put on an attachment or connect it to a tool there's no noise.  I have to wonder what your using the hose end for?  Why not just put on an attachment?
