Who is your "Favorite Festool Dealer"?

I vote for Per as the best Festie sales guy, sorry Bob, Per told me to say that or he would cut me off and not give me anymore helpful wood tips and he would stop sending me interesting pics along with his e-mails to me...

I have purchases all of my Festool products and other tools from Japan Woodworker.

However, I do have a built in bias, since I work there.

Bill

I ordered my Domino stuff from Bob. Nice guy, he almost sent me two of them by mistake. It's really nice to skip sales tax on high $$ items like Festool.

;D

I'll give a plug for Bill at the Japan Woodworker (and I don't work there). Bill was very patient with my thousand-and-one questions. He answered everything, showed me how everything worked, and I never felt rushed or pushed into getting anything I didn't need or want. He suggested things that I might need, and explained their value. He's an outstanding sales person.

Side note: I suppose I could have saved some sales tax or something by ordering out-of-state, but it was very much worth the hands-on instruction I got from a live person. I don't think I would have been as confident or successful in using the tools just from watching the video or reading the manuals. (I'll leave my rant on the manuals for another time.)

I might buy from Anthony sometimes, if I lived in OZ.  ;D But for great all around service here in the USA, Bob Marino is the man. I sometimes go to Woodcraft if I need a quick 5-pack of abrasives, but they know less about Festool than I do.  ::)

Marc St. Pierre and Darin Poburan of Hafele - Canada, have been very helpful.

Bob, without question.  I enjoy working with the guys at my local Woodcraft but only one person there knows anything about the Festool product line.  They don't stock much and saving the sales tax with no shipping just makes sense.  My Craftsman/Bosch professional router just quit on me yesterday so it looks like the OF1400 will be on order later this week.  ::)  oh well...

Howard, If your Bosch just fails to turn on it may be the switch. They are notorious for that problem while otherwise not being a bad tool. Mine quit on me and I found the switch full of dust from MDF. It may just need the switch blown out.

Greg

thanks for the idea.  I'll check it out.  If it works, it doesn't dissuade me from getting the 1400.  ;D

Also like to give a plug to Anthony at Ideal tools. Good bloke and great service  ;D

Maybe Festool should start some kind of exchange program.  Dealers from Australia and elsewhere can come to America for a couple of weeks, and American dealers can get a chance to travel a bit as well.

This would provide a much-deserved getaway for busy dealers.  They can bring back knowledge of the other country's tools, practices, and woodworking language, all of which can be shared with members of this forum.  While the American dealers are abroad, maybe they could bring back some tools.  (I hope no one from UL is listening!)

Matthew,

Contrary to popular opinion UL does not control whether you can use/sell without UL listing.  It is the city, local governments,  and the state that control whether you can sell a piece of equipment without UL listing.  Realize that UL was initially set up by insurance companies to certify appliances that did not catch fire or pose an electrical hazard.  Nowadays there are competitors to UL such as ETL, TUV, CE etc.  A local jurisdiction can decide which of these it will accept--stateside UL seems to be the default choice--but that is changing to include more options. I do not work for UL or another safety agency but have dealt with these agencies in my line of work.

McFeely's is the best. They also have excellent support on everything Festool.  The only downside is customer support, which does not return phone calls nor return e-mails.  It is best to speak to customer service by phone where customer service is responsive.

Hey there,

That's certainly not our policy. We have two factory trained representatives and eight customer service representatives available from Monday-Friday 8AM - 5PM EST. Why don't you send me a quick email off the board and lets see if we can figure out your situation. We staff too much not to answer calls.

You can reach me at 1-800-443-7937 x. 3025. I'd love to know more about this.

I posted a question this morning on McFeelys web site. I had a response in a couple of hours with a phone number to call. When I called the number my call was answered within two rings.
That is good service.

:) That's what we strive to do.

Of course, that doesn't invalidate anyone's experience. We try to grow from these mistakes but they do happen.

Thanks for the kind words!

Now that I actually own some Festool I can reply to my own thread.  I got a TS55, MFT 1080, OF 1010, and CT MINI from Bob and the service was great.  When I received the TS55 with some damage to the Systainer, Bob was on it!  The service was so good I decided that I should get a Domino too.  Well maybe it wasn't just because of the service, but it certainly was a factor.  Thanks Bob!
