Wide base plate for my Makita router

I needed to recess some tab-pulls into the top edge of some drawer fronts this morning. They were 6" wide, so the router was going to need to span that distance. The only thing I have that wide is the edge guide that I made a few weeks ago. It would have worked, but the OF1400 is a bit much for this little job.
In less than 10 minutes the Shaper Trace and Plate made this possible. I did countersink the holes with a hand drill, rather than complicating it.
After the job was done, I spent a few minutes polishing the edges. One of my co-workers asked where I bought it. I told him I didn't, not only did I make it, I did it this morning. The Makita logo was an afterthought that I did after work.

See your familiar name over on the S.O. forum. I just got one and it's been a lot of fun getting familiar with it.

I’ve made several base plates over the years.  A marking pen and a hand drill are all the equipment that you really need.

I’ve added a transfer punch set a while back and that improves hole placement accuracy. Just lay the existing base over the acrylic sheet and tap the appropriate transfer punch.

They were just $12.00 from Harbor Freight.

I made almost the exact same base for my Makita. It appears in one of the "Show Your Systainer" posts. The idea was to round-over the edges of some jewelry boxes I was making. The occasion arose to round over the top of a pencil box only slightly smaller than the base plate and amusingly, when the plate covered the entire box, dust collection sucked all of the air out and the router became frozen in place until I turned off the vacuum. My life is a cautionary tale.

Nice job on the plus size router plate.

Could you not use Shaper Plate for the work on the drawers?

Actually the Workstation would be a better fit for the drawer fronts. All I was doing was making a 6" wide notch in the top edge of the fronts. They were already attached to the drawers and the clearance was just not enough. They worked when they were in the shop, but once they got loaded up, they dragged on the one above.
I really didn't want to take the fronts off of the drawers, so a simple clamp on jig was far easier.
The one I made a couple of years ago is adjustable and this is the first time I needed a base this wide. Tab pulls are usually pretty narrow, so the regular router base would work. I should have taken a pic of the jig too and I totally forgot to get one of the drawers, but they are gone now.
