My wife would like some wooden plates but she microwaves a lot. I have cherry on hand but I don’t know if you can micro wave a wooden plate I suspect that’s ok and would come down to the interactions with any finish. Anyone have any insight into a microwaveable finish for a wood plate.

Beeswax? Maybe? but it might weep out if it gets too hot. I would think oils are out, since they seem to draw microwave energy anyway. Fat and sugar seem to concentrate the heat. Film finishes are generally out as far as food contact, cooking them might be worse. Not much help, it's all I have.

Yea it is as I expected wood and wood finishes just aren’t meant for a microwave. I told her she could keep some microwaveable items around and just serve tongue wooden plate. We will see what she chooses. Thanks!
