But who doesn’t love highly figured walnut. Unless of course it’s an equally special piece of figured cherry.  [big grin]

haha! I was thinking the lighting was really crazy to make that Walnut look like Cherry. Gorgeous stock. Interesting to see where it goes. Are you turning it for the floor lamp or something else?

Paul that’s in its final shape. Will end up like the ones on the right in this pic.

That's some really nice looking stock you have there Ron. Some fabulous finished product too, great job.

Hey [member=3192]rvieceli[/member] I don't remember if I asked you before. How do you finish the metal parts/bases?
It seems like they are torch cut and left intentionally jagged, but then finished bright and shiny. Are the plated? Nickel?

CRG mostly A36 mild steel although sometimes some AR500 sneaks in.  [big grin] Oxy/acetylene torch for the texture, clean it up, weld then clean it up again. I like shiny. They are then clear coated.

I have tried powder coating but didn’t like the results.

Stainless would be interesting and expensive and I’d have to have my son weld it. My tig not so good.  [eek]

So, it's just sanded/polished/lacquered, not plated at all? Nice

Electroless Nickel plating might be a fun rabbit hole

Stainless is the charm Ron... [big grin] ...tough on cutting tools, difficult to machine, and it works harden easily...other than those small issues, what's the problem?

Did I mention that any wire brushes, ScotchBrite hand pads, or cutting & blending discs also need to be kept separate if used on stainless?
