OK, any kind of reasonably durable shorts that are shorts. This current heat wave here in the US has made want a couple new pairs.  Trouble is everything seems to be knee length or more. I always find that they  A) are not as cool as they could be and B). They are constantly "binding/grabbing" at the knee, especially when it is humid, or C). are flapping  around too much.

I have some Carharts that are almost worn out, and more of them would be great but they changed them and all of their models are longer now  [mad]

I hate trying to find clothing articles that I like. I have gotten to the point of buying lots of extras when I find something now.

So got any links to possibilties?

I had my local Carharts dealer order me the cargo shorts. I"m 5' 10" and they don't bind at my knee. Not sure what to tell you.

Cheers,
Steve

I will admit that I buy all my khaki shorts at good will or garage sales.  I ruin clothes to quickly to buy new ones.

I am happy with lightweight shorts that hit me just above the knee.

Carhartt has some shorter inseams you can see here. Not sure if these are the best prices but it shows you can get short inseams.

I find the perfect length is when your front pockets hang just below your shorts.

I have been wearing these from Blaklader, they are comfortable and hold up quite well

I'm not a big fan of the heavy worker pants and short from Blakladder.  The material is just too thick for shorts and it's even more than I need for long pants too.  I like the Blakladder Brawny long pants and the lighter weight of Bantam line for both shorts and long pants.

I just wear my running shorts (I dont run, so maybe I should call them something else), a t-shirts, hat (for seat absorption) and flip flops.  I only do light duty work, but when I've done bigger things, the outfit's the same.  Have not had any major accidents, so far and knock on wood.

I have a couple of tool belts, but I always forget to put them on.  By the time I remember (if I do), the tools are all over the place, so what's the point...

My workshop is in a detached two car garage and the previous owner (also a woodworker, use to make grandfather clocks) was nice enough to put in an industrial strength fan.  Good enough into the early afternoon.

Not to disagree with brother Brice but I like my Blaklader shorts.  Yes they are heavy but they have pockets in all the right places.  I am fully loaded for work with out a pouch and can hang drills from my belt safely.  That being said, I do wish they were a little more breathable and that they weren't built for righties.

If there is a better pair of shorts for work I would like to know.

I'm not a lefty, so I am a bit confused by the statement.  Always curious about such things... aren't shorts simetrical?

The shorts themselves are but the hammer loop is only on the right and the pockets are different left and right.  If I had a loop on the left side I would use a "d" ring or a "s" clip to hang a speed square.  It is very easy to overload one side of a pouch or shorts then though you may have all your tool, you would be too uncomfortable to work like that all day, kind of like wearing shoes that don't fit quite right.

...and you don't like the Mantainers?

Waaaaay too stiff, no give,  and the schnappers  [eek]  [blink]

Thanks for the links and info. Looks like some possibilities  [smile]

I've always found it odd that all of my different Carhartt pants have the hammer loop on the left.  Not the best location for a righty, unless I put my pants on backwards.  Then there are other issues to deal with.  [big grin]
