Hi all...  New to Festool ownership but needed a new dust extractor and the CT range looked like a good bet so got me a CTL26

I have also invested in a Workshop Cleaning Set but just want to check that I'm not doing something wrong or missing something..

Where the bottom pipe goes into the metal floor tool there are 4 splines that hold the pipe..  no matter how much I push or twist the pipe, I cant get it to form a seal, there is always daylight at the bottom of the pipe and, whilst there is loads of suction where it is needed, there is also loads of air being pulled in around that bottom joint.  Is this right??? surely it is taking away a not insignificant amount of suction from the bottom of the tool.... where it is needed most??

Also, I bought the 36/27mm reducer so I could just use the one 36mm hose rather than carrying 2.  It would appear that to use this reducer I have to completely remove the 36mm connector that comes with the 36mm hose and screw on the 27mm adaptor....  Is this correct??  I sort of assumed it would be a plug and play affair!

Thanks in advance
Paul

Welcome to the FOG Paul.
I think I know what you are referring to, although I've never noticed any light coming through this space on my setup.  If it seems to be working I wouldn't worry too much.

I'm pretty sure you are correct the 36mm connector has to come off.  I don't like the idea of having the 36mm hose reduced all the time so I kept the 36mm connector on, and bring the 27mm hose when needed.  It's a bit of pain but I feel it's the better option.

Thanks for the reply Brice..

The female connection at the top of the floor tool does seem to taper down and I assumed that once the pipe was inserted it would bottom out and create a seal.  I had the pipe and floor tool in the air whilst pushing the pipe in and it happened to flip over and the bottom faced the window, it was then I could see light reflecting through the gap round the bottom of the pipe/bottom of the female receiver in the tool..  no matter what I do I can't seal that connection.

As you say it works so not to worry, just a little bit annoyed as for such an expensive accessory compared to other brands  (the equivalent 'Henry' all Metal cleaning set is £14 in the UK!!!!) one would expect it to be... well... perfect!! And allowing it to leak in such a way must reduce it's efficiency at the floor..

Glad I was right re the reducer, don't mind having to remove and replace but it would have been much nicer and no less secure to have a push fit version!  The amount of air moved and suction created with the 36mm hose attached compared to the 27mm would appear significantly greater.

Cheers
Paul
