WTB Festool at a discount

Your best best is to get used tools but be forewarned that the Festool brand holds its value pretty well.  Expect to pay at least 70 to 90% of retail depending on condition.

I would set up search notifications for what you want on eBay and Craigslist.

I would also watch the classified sections on FOG, Sawmill Creek, and Woodnet.

Occasionally, Festool USA offers reconditioned tools for 10 to 30% off but there is no scheduled time of year for this.

I have used all these methods along with buying new tools to build my Festool collection over the years.

Good luck!

One doesn't need or deserve FT gear.
The OP can also buy the FT owner's used non-FT gear for pretty cheap.

If the goal is to make stuff, then the tool doesn't need to be green for it to work well.
Or wait until you are out of grad school and have $ for what you want.

You might notice that the craigslist posting above is no longer listed.  Good deals on Festool products go real fast.

I always felt that the marketing depts. of major tool companies should align themselves with various universities of creative design or industrial arts. The tool company might offer introductory graduate discount packages, discounted student financing and maybe even help the graduate student apply for grant money. Just thinking out loud.

You mean like this one -

http://www.festool.com.au/epages/tooltechnic.sf/en_AU/?ObjectPath=/Shops/tooltechnic/Categories/apprentice

http://www.festool.com.au/WebRoot/Store/Shops/tooltechnic/MediaGallery/apprentice/Apprentice-Brochure.pdf

Note the support loan amounts for each apprenticeship year are provided by the Australian Government, not by Festool and which might be implied if conducting a quick read.

Festool AUS does however provide apprentices with cash backs based on expenditure. This is not provided to normal customers.

@ untidy shop....That's exactly my thoughts. You've got the better surf waves and apprentice programs.

School discounts where the mechanism that Apple Computer used to break into and stay in the PC business even after Microsoft dominated the market with Windows.  Festool might think about expanding their trade school discounts to the up and coming tradesmen (and tradeswomen).

I contacted festool when i was converting my shop for discounts since i was going to drop $7,000 or so and they just gave me a link to my local dealer.
