Yet another....Oh-No...Roubo

This Roubo is getting close to being finished. It was started in September and has been a joy (translation..."obsession")  [eek]ever since.[attachthumb=#]

Absolutely beautiful!  I love the accent strips in the top.  Is that walnut?  The rest looks like maple (?)  Great execution, you'll be enjoying it for many years to come!  
EDIT, I just noticed you hid the front guide roller in the vise chop like Ron Brese's.  That must have been one mammoth mortise.  Very cool!

I have you to blame (I mean Thank) for the inspiration.
The color on these quick grab shots is way off. Hard Maple was used on the base and tops with California Walnut for the accent strips.
I still have a few things left to do like drill a few more holdfast holes and to make the gap stop strip.

Here is another example of a project or tool that is just too beautiful to use.  It will probably get even more so as it patinas with age.  Not much more to say about perfection, or darn close to it.

The morticed pocket for the roller guide wasn't as bad as you would think. I just used that monster bit from Whiteside the 2200 and the MFS. Having just taken the Festool Router Class didn't hurt either.

How's it going?
Well I guess you can see why I needed to go to the Sept class. Everything we learned with the exception of the 32 mm stuff was put to use in this project. Mostly The big router (2200) got to see the most action, but even the trim router got plugged in a few times.

As soon as the bench is completely done, and I can clean up the shop enough to move the bench into some decent light, I'll post some better shots.
