I know there are a number of remodelers and contractors on this group and would like any opinions from owners (pro or con) on the Zip Wall system.
Thanks
Steve

Steve,

I use the Zip wall system on every job I do. It is very versatile and works as advertised. Depending on your needs, you can buy the kit with everything needed including a carry bag (the system i use) or buy the poles separately.

It saves a huge amount of time on cleanup and the customers really appreciate the results.

For remodeling IMO they are a must.  Easy to put up and easy to take down.  If it is a high trafic area in the house I put the wall up in the morning and do my claen up at the end of the dayand drop the wall on my way out.  For some jobs I just use the stuff to make a cut area so I don't fill a garage and it's content with saw dust.

I make that particular point because thats how it happened for me.  I set up to cut in the only place not inside the house that was dry.  About three day later I heard about it from my very high maintance customer.  Dust collection would have made a difference as well but sometimes a customer just wants to see you making an effort.  BTW, I charge a little more for dust control as a line item just ahead of disposal.  If the homeowner squack about it I offer to remove the process and they stop squacking.  Ya gotta pay for that plastic somehow. [eek]

I've always just blue painter's tape since it will seal and really keep dust out. Of course, the tape has on occasion (as in every chance it gets) pulled off. It's a bit of a headache at times. With the new RRP laws coming down the pike I see Zip Wall system in my future. Thanks for the input guys.

We use them on almost every job. You can cut down clean up time. When replacing an exterior door in the winter time it helps to keep the heat in the house. Custermore appreciate the attention to details.

Let you in on a lil secret.    Harbor freight

got mine for $9.00 a bar [big grin]

I saw those at Harbor Freight the other day.  As a benefit, besides being cheap, they are rated for lift.  You can use then to hold things like crown.  I believe those were rated for 60lbs.  I proably won't buy zipwall brand in the future.  They got my 400.00.  There are so many knock offs of adequate quality.

another hint
those "sticky dash pads "  that they sell in convenience stores to hold your celphone, that you wash to reactivate, they work awesome to stick to plastic to the top pad,  keep em in a small tupperware container in your sys-tem

The http://www.task-tools.com/Commerce.web/product.aspx?id=18650&catID=8058#Task Tools Quick Support Rod kicks butt. Strongest thing this side of the T-Jack and way more versatile.

Designed in Canada (I think) but made in Taiwan, they're still kinda hard to find but http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&productId=100383316&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&ci_sku=100383316&ci_src=14110944&cm_mmc=shopping-_-googlebase-_-D22X-_-100383316&locStoreNum=1249&marketID=116HD has them online. The picture at HD is of the short version. They make them in 4 length ranges.

It's hard to find good pictures.

This one from Task Tools fails to show the positive way the extension locks. It's like a heavy duty slotted shelf bracket with 3/8" increments. Then, for fine adjustment and lifting the ends of the pole are threaded in opposite directions so the whole pole is like a big turnbuckle. Capacity is over 100 pounds.

I have 6 of those in the longer version and a couple in the short version.

I use them all the time inside my trailer.  They hold anything in place.

Thanks guys, keep the options coming.  I was thinking about getting the Fastcap support and was wondering if it would to the job of the Zip Wall.  Looks like there are several other options that I wasn't aware of.
Steve

I use the fast cap poles for crown and holding up cabinets they will work for plastic too but you really need the special ends with the magnet and washer to make it easier. The zip wall poles are far easier and faster to use but if you only use them occasionally the fast cap poles  work , if you do crown they are really great for a third hand.

I have a pair of these yellow ones, and one of the fastcap ones........ I keep wishing someone would steal the fastcap one from me so I will just go out and buy more yellow ones. IMO the fastcap ones are a POS. [2cents]

I used to struggle with tape and poly-sheeting until I bought a ZipPole System. If I had any idea how great it was I would have bought it a long, long time ago. We used it to block off a staircase, some windows and a door and basically created a nearly air-tight space. I cut all the molding in that room but no dust spread anywhere inside the house. When my customers came back from their trip all they saw was my finished work - no mess whatsoever. It is a great system perfect for jobs with ceilings up-to 10' - and at only half the price of the full ZipWall System you can get 4 poles, a zipper pack and carry bag for $169. http://zipwall.com/lp/zippole.html
