I recently purchased a new 1010 router and had only been using it for a few Blum hinges and bits but today I went hanging a new door into a frame that had been fitted previously and a problem arrived

I set hinges down 150mm (6") from the top and up 200mm(8") from the bottom the top was fine but when you go to router out  the bottom the handle on the router hits the floor and you then have to re adjust the guide to the opposite side and set everything up again

Hopefully this is explained ok for people to understand and if so has anyone else had this problem before

Yeah 6 and 9 for me too. I know what you mean though sometimes that handle does get in the way. I've gone over to using a little Makita trimmer and a jig and flush trim cutter. Much easier

Il try 9 but I don't think it will work the plug it cord extends another 2" aswell pay the handle
I have a small dewalt router that I needed to upgrade I might have to change back for this type of work

If I understand the problem correctly you are drilling holes for mounting plates after the cabinet box is built.

Here's what I use: EZ -Mount

Fast and simple.

Just a update to the thread

I went hanging doors again on Friday and sat and got my head around this problem

What I did was I purchased a trend unbiase and fixed it to my qf1010 I used this with a trend hinge jig which I borrowed from a friend to see how it worked and it was great
Very accurate and saves alot of time

This router is getting better every day

I dont get the problem? i use the OF1400 with the Trend hinge jig. Why do you need to use a unibase?

John..

I do 6 from top and 9 from the bottom, with the 1010 and the trend hinge jig, perfect for me.

Dazzer he's talking about using the fence not a jig , if you try routing hinges using the fence then the plugit lead hits the floor on the bottom hinge. If you're using a jig it doesn't come into it as you can turn the router in any direction.

oh right, cut the hinge a bit higher then,or get a jig,or wait years for festool to listen to problems like that and alter it,can't have it all ways can we.

You started out writing about Blum hinges and then refer to a generic 'door into a new frame' in the same sentence. Why would Ccarol not think you were still referring to cabinets? I do get it, being concise while describing a certain situation is not always easy. WE know what we mean and expect everyone else to catch the same wave. Doesn't always happen and it is not always obvious to the originator why it was not understood.
