1400 router - fine height adjustment (newbie sorry)

Hi there,

First post so please be gentle..!

I have recently bought myself an mtf3, router 1400 and t55 saw.. have just been putting them to use and i have a question about the fine height adjustment on the 1400 router.

This is especially relavant when im using my D4R dovetail jig, as there are fine height adjustments required..

On the non existant manual (is this normal for a product so 'top of the range' to not come with a manual to get one started?! I found most of what i needed from unofficial sources. Seems strange no?) it says that there is 8mm of fine adjustment.

I understand that to be when i insert the bit into the router and set a rough depth (and therefore fix the plunge), that i can turn the green adjustment knob and the bit can move a further 8mm (depending where it is on its travel of course) but nothing happens, only the plunge depth scale changes..

Can anyone help? My first dovetails came out great, but it was a bit of luck i think so i need this adjustment.

If having made an approximate depth setting (which I presume you know how to do) you want to increase or reduce the depth of plunge, you can do this by rotating the fine height adjuster in an appropriate direction (it is obvious which direction you want as rotating the dial in one direction raises the depth guide rod and rotating in the opposite direction lowers it. If you had left the router plunged (and locked) to the stop you can obviously only raise the depth guide rod and hence increase the depth of the cutter (obviously you have to plunge down to the new position having raised the rod). If you want to reduce the depth of cut you would need to retract the cutter above the desired final depth and turn the fine height adjuster so as to lower the rod. If I remember correctly, one full rotation equates to 1mm and the numbers on the dial are 0.1mm increments.

thanks for the reply.. so the fine adjustment is only on the plunge depth, i'd need to re-plunge the router. Ok thats fine, as long as i know! There is one video on you-tube that shows the plunge depth having been set and then the knob is turned and the bit descends 'live' if you like.. i thought it might be like that..

The OF 2200 can work that way but not the OF 1010 and OF1400 routers.
