I wanted to reduce the weight of my c18 drill for overhead work so i thought i will buy a couple of 2.6 ah batteries when i checked the 18 v 2.6 ah batteries more expensive than the18 v 5.2 ah batteries just cant get my head around it how and why can this be

Festool batteries price and availability is a real sore point in Oz ... we still haven't seen a 5.2Ah battery down under. let alone the new 2.6Ah's.

Possibly a demand related pricing thing.

Not sure if 18V 2.6 is more expensive,from US dealers the price for 18V 5.2Ah - $62.00 and for 18V 2.6Ah - $45.00
Your info is not correct.

[member=13058]Kev[/member]  Festool Aus are listing, 2.6 @ $101.97. (Why it isn't $102' beats me) and 4.2 @ $110.  But I think our 2.6 batteries are not slim line probably old stock like our 4.2's.
I was lucky enough to get some old Protool 18v 1.5ah batteries for a song for overhead work but that was on a deal a while back, do you remember when Festool Aus used to do deals?  but last time I checked they were $150 each! Now They are no longer listed.

[member=42735]DB10[/member] the 2.6Ah's they're listing on Festool Oz are the old fat ones - nothing new in batteries for down under for years.

i am correct not sure if the slim line batteries are even available in the usa yet but in the uk the 2.6 ah battery is around 10 to 20 pounds more expensive

Festool very recently dropped the price on new batteries quite a bit, like 30% lower. Old stock like the 2.6 Ah batteries is probably still priced at old prices.

I'm not sure the new slimmer batteries are sold here, I haven't seen them in the store or on European websites. The 2.6 ah batteries you saw were probably the older fat ones.

i thought a couple of the 2.6ah would be handy for tight spaces and overhead

me neither it does not make sense to me

That's the slim type alright. Maybe they are more expensive because they are new and Festool has to make back their money on their investment for the new production process? Just guessing.

Darren,

It's simple supply & demand.

If you look at the links to N&B that you posted, the new 5.2Ah battery is £91.74 list, but with a 28% discount is sold at £66.00.

The new slimline 2.6Ah battery is £81.54 list price (£10.21 cheaper than the 5.2Ah). The discount offered however is lower at 11%, therefore the selling price is £72.75.

Festool dealers buy from Festool at different prices depending on quantity. On products with a higher demand (like the 5.2Ah battery) they can buy more of them, so get them at a lower price allowing them to offer more discount. Products which are less popular (like the 2.6Ah battery) they buy in smaller quantities, so they don't get as good a price. Hence, they can offer less discount on those.

Yes, but what Jonny is saying isn't limited to just Nuts & Bolts is it.

On the mainland of Europe the 2.6 is little cheaper then the 5.2 battery in nearly every web-shop I visited.
Cheapest I can find:
18V-2.6Ah at €67 excl.VAT
18V-5.2Ah at €72 excl.VAT

Does the 2.6ah battery come as "Standard" with any of their battery tools, or is it only available as an accessory...????
