I would love to standardize on only 8mm and 1/2" router bits.  The Toolnut youtube video about the new Makita cordless router mentions that it is 1/4" only.

However, there are some Makita 8mm collets available on eBay.  Does anyone know if they will fit the new compact cordless router?

I wonder what the Australian and European versions will come with?

The manual says 1/4" and 3/8".

It does look to be based on the RT0700 (at least that's the UK designation) and you can get 6mm and 8mm collets for that too. I have several Katsu trimmers that are all but identical to the RT0700 and use 8mm collets in some of them.

If you want to give it a try (or someone else does) it's Makita 763618-5 8mm Collet Cone for 3620 RT0700 RT0701 MT361 RP0900.

Are you sure that I only need the 8mm cone?  Does not look like it has the fingers I see on other routers.

Positive. It has one split in it which compresses the bit shaft as the nut is tightened.

For what it's worth, I just checked and that 8mm collet does not appear to be available in the U.S.

I looked into this last year (for the corded version) and came to the conclusion that the U.S. Model had a different shaft from the EU  versions and it would not accept an 8mm collet  even if you imported one.

I did not go as far as ordering a collet to try it , as the Dewalt version will accept 8mm bit for sure.

Hey guys:

I recently bought a corded rt0700 (in Europe) and for the life of me I can't seem to figure out how this 8mm collet cone works. I have 8mm shaft router bits, but the collet cone doesn't even come close to working.

Any advice on this?

Cheers
Vaska

You literally just remove the existing 1/4" collet cone and use the 8mm one instead. The nut fits both.

What's the problem you are having? Do you have a photo of how you have put it together?

I'm in USA and I got one of these router kits to review.  It came with a collet ring which fits in the place where the collet would go, but it's not as substantial.  I assumed it was 8mm because of the Asian market.

Looking at the product description today it appears they are now specifying it as a 3/8" collet.  When I got the kit it wasn't mentioned anywhere in the specs.

I ordered the 8mm collet from a Makita distributor in the UK. Later I located a US source, Elaire Corp., Look for the Makita style 763637-1 router collets, fits RT700C, RTO700CX3, RTO701C, RPO900K,3621 and 3621A.

I have located the collet with the above information.

Intend to purchase Toolcurve Makita Plunge Router LR 32 Hole Drilling Set.

Does anyone know how to center the bit within the Makita XTR01 router? Festool has the centering mandrel with their set. Any ideas for the XTR01?

Thanks

My post was not very clear.

Looking for how to center the router bit in Toolcurve's LR32 set.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Any cone-shaped centering mandrel of sufficient diameter will work.

The Festool one shipped with LR32 is just a single-purpose simplified one. Nothing special about it.
