A drop of paint makes all the difference

Just a little project I did last week, some radiators in a snackbar that needed repainting. Over the years they've become rusty and paint flaking off, making a for a rather poor sight.

Took me about 4 hours over 2 days for the two radiators. First day I cleaned them, sanded them and then patched the sanded spots with a first layer of radiator paint. My trusted DS400 got good use again, this time fitted with the RS400 pad which made a perfect fit for the rectangular shapes on the radiators. The CT Mini kept the snackbar customers from getting dusty fries.

Second day I painted them in a full finish layer. I could use the same paint both as primer and the finish layer.

It is amazing how just a little bit of paint and some work can change ugly into nice.

Very nice Alex. What is the radiator made of? Still Cast Iron or steel sections sealed together?

Sorry leakyroof, didn't see your question before. I think it's all steel. Two plates pressed into shape and then welded together.

Thanks for the reply. One more question, what is the general life of these radiators before you get a pinhole or leak?

I have no clue how long exactly. But it's decades. The radiators in my mother's house were changed 29 years ago and they're still in top condition. I have never seen a radiator anywhere spring a leak, except for the couplings.

that's good to hear, I'm surrounded by old Cast Iron Radiators where I live, and most of them are close to 100 years old if they came with the house when it was new.
