A Few Sysports Made

I took some time off from my day job and made some progress in organizing my green boxes along with other boxes. They have been scattered all over the place because I was working on the house quite a bit recently.

I did follow Eric's YouTube video and copied dimension and hole spacing for drawer slide mounting (only lowered the height to 992mm so that I could use LR32 to drill all the mounting holes with my 1080 rail), build the first (2) sysports on the right with the classic systainers in them. Thanks for all the info, Eric! Nice video!

I recalculated the dimension by taking some measurement off the first build, and made some changes on the second set of sysports to the left. The height of the cabinets still remains at 992 mm, but the depth changed from 400 mm to 375 mm, and width changed from 460 mm to 442 mm.

The numbers of hole spacing was also modified from Eric's suggestion, this time 10 hole spacing instead of 11 for sys4; 7 hole spacing instead of 8 for sys3; and 5 hole spacing instead of 6 for sys2. I have about 5 mm  to 7 mm gap in between systainers.

Added a pull out tray onto one of the second set to store measurement and marking tools.

Drawers were made from 10 mm MDO plywood that was left over from other project. Four of the feet under T-loc systainers sitting inside of the square shape so the systainers don't move around.

Each sheet of 4x8 plywood will be more than enough to make (2) of these without the drawers.

My average cost is about $70 per sysport, including all 350mm drawer slides, casters and plywood.

Thanks for reading. Thanks Eric!

Your cabs look great - nice work! I am going to start on something similar soon. Eric's videos are really great, he is a generous guy. Please show us what you build next!

Thanks Mike!

They were not difficult to build, it takes a little time for initial planning and thinking through the process. I didn't even drill the second set of rear mounting holes for drawers, only the front holes at 37mm, and use 6.3mm Euro screws to locate the drawer slide height, then Woodpeckers 450mm square to align everything to the front edge, it came out surprisingly good. Maybe I should do all the drawer cabinets that way from now on.

LR32 system is very accurate and fun to do, but still an extra operation. I am not sure which one is easier: drill extra set of holes on each side of the cabinet, or just use WP square as assembly aid in installation.

And I agree, Eric is a great guy.

Hi JZ,
Thanks for posting this.  I am planning some Sysports as well and planned to copy Eric's dimensions other than the height, which I plan to make the same height as my MFT/3.  I have all new systainers and I am wondering why you changed the cabinet dimensions for your new systainers?

Thanks!

Patrick,

Sorry to reply this late.

I used 10mm MDO plywood for the drawer bottoms (396mm wide)and sides, plus 1/2" drawer slides (12.7mm), the math came up to be 396 + (12.7 x 2) + (10 x 2) = 441.4mm, so I used 442mm.

The drawer slides I used were 350mm, the plywood I used was 18mm, and I gave myself 7mm extra room behind the drawers, the math came up to be 350 + 18 + 7 = 375mm. Also, at this dimension, a full sheet of plywood will yield three panels plus about 80mm extra strip for the stretchers.

I didn't bother to have backer panel, just added a couple of more stretchers. The carcass seems strong enough.

Hope that helps. Thanks.
