A friend of the Forum has passed

Peter,

I am so very sorry for your loss. It is so tough to lose a friend, especially the 4 legged kind. RIP [member=58907]FOGdog[/member].

I feel for you and hope you'll get to see your beloved [member=58907]FOGdog[/member] again when eventually you'll attend the great upstairs party.

We expect we'll have to make the hardest decision for our Carpatian Shepherd Nero in a few weeks time. The pain is already there, even though he is still with us for now. It never is easy loosing your best friend. We adopted him as an elderly dog and had him come over from Romania. In these short 2 years he has proven to be a wonderful dog.

We still miss the dog we had before him every day (the Leonberger you see as my avatar), and he is gone for 3 years now.

I wish you and your family find comfort in the though that you gave him the best life a dog could get. The good memories will always stay with you.

No words work here when we lose our loved Pups...hope your deep loss passes soon.

Genuinely sorry to read this Peter. Dogs and other pets become family members almost instantly, and their passing hits hard.
I hope you can find consolation from the fact there was no suffering, all our thoughts are with you.

[member=58907]FOGdog[/member] I hope you're in a better place now, R.I.P.

Hello Peter,

Our hearts go out to you and your family at this time of loss  May your future be filled with wonderful thoughts of your time with [member=58907]FOGdog[/member]

Hi Peter,

I was so sorry to hear that MacGyver has gone on to the great dog park.
I always enjoyed hearing about his antics and I know he will be missed.

Maggie also sends her sympathy for one of her fellow FogDogs.

Dave

Peter , I'm so sorry for your loss.  I have been 39 for going on 50 years and I remember every one of my great furry friends. I remember my first pal that I actually called my best friend. When I stayed out late, sometimes even past my curfew, as I would sneak in the front door of my house (my mom's houseI was still in high school), no matter how quiet, I would always paws (pun intended) to listen to the "thump thump" of the tail as it hit the floor right above me. When she passed on, it was a long time before I could not hear that greeting. She was always with me during the days, no matter where I went. When I was off alone, she always went to my bedroom to await my return. I have had many best friends since. As our own children were growing up, whenever we had our friends nearing the ends of their days, we always prepared our children for the time we might come home from the vet without their furry pal. Once, our daughter even went with us for the final trip and held our pal with me. I know (I am sure I know, I can only comprehend really) how you feel Peter. [member=58907]FOGdog[/member], I hope you have many squirrels to chase in your yard.

Squirrels are the main reason we never let Scout drive the car.  That and his complete lack of thumbs.  Also, his feet couldn't reach the pedals so that could have been an issue.  But he clearly always wanted to drive and never quit trying to climb over the center console from the back seat.  Happy memories!

@MacGuyver is in dog heaven now.  Our dogs have a way of sensing the need for comfort in us and an ability to endear themselves to us forever.  Amazing animals.

So sorry for your loss.  [member=58907]FOGdog[/member]

Peter,
your news clearly touched many hearts, ours included, as you can see by the number of responses.
But the memories thankfully do not pass! - cherish them!

My first dog (the one with the thumping tail) always rode on the front seat when we were alone. She would sit with her head high. I was not a very sedate driver in those days, to put it VERYmildly. As we would near a corner, she always knew which way to lean, how soon and how much. When we were approaching a stop street, she would brace her feet and body and lean back. She never guessed wrong, she never tumbled off the seat. I think she could have driven the car if only her feet could reach the pedals.

years later, I think it could have been possible for her to drive. When I got out of the army, I needed to have an operation on my leg. while in the hospital, i met a lineman who had both arms amputated as result while working on high tension lines. He needed to go down to the Brooklyn Naval Hospital for a adjustment to his artificial arms. His ride failed to show up so i volunteered to drive him there. The ward was full of amputees. One had no arms or legs. Only a couple of stubs here and there. He was allowed to drive his specially equipped Oldsmobile. He had to be lifted into the car and they would somehow attach buttons and levers and he was good to go. Now, if i could only have had my old car rigged up like that, imagine what fun i could have had with letting my dog drive while i was attending to other priorities.

sorry to hear abt this
its never easy. my family and i cried so much when my first dog passed away too.

Indeed a great loss but who  would trade the memories in spite of the loss. We were blessed with our golden for 17 years and he added so much joy to our lives.

Well,  it has been 6 days of mayhem here.  Last Saturday we brought home little Magnum P.I. He and Indiana Jones are adjusting as are the humans in the house.

As you can tell he is a sports fan already.  He'll be 9 weeks old on Saturday.
