A place for my tips, toys and tinkering

Yea, I have no idea about the bit. There is no specification on the Lee Valley site. But you're right I may just drill the holes with a drill, since I have the bit already and a drill press.

Got a few goodies the other day, two of which were worth noting,   unfortunately no Festool  [sad] those should be here by the beginning of next week  [smile]

I know the countersink is a simple thing but i have wanted a small diameter counter sink for trim head screws for some time now, never found one or had one come with any of the kits i bought (including snappy kit)  got determined to find one the other day because i an using a lot of SS 7x1 5/8 trim heads on a project. came across this in my local woodcraft  this thing works beautifully

i have wanted a syslite for a while now but because i dont have any Festool drills/batteries i couldnt get myself to do it.. i have loads of Makita 18v LXT stuff and have always had an eye on their LED light, just never thought it would compare to the Festool

the guys at my local tol shop, Coastal Tool, let me take this and a syslite into the back room with the lights out and to say the least i was very impressed with the Makita.. picked up the light, no battery at coastal for $55,   you can get it for $44 w/free ship on amazon

here are some shots of the light first is with lights out in room, second is same shot as first just with makita light on, third shows how wide the light spreads to the sides.

[attachimg=#]

the light has 7 clicking positions for the arm and the head spins about 315*   there is two settings high and low,   the light output is good, not quite as bright as the syslite but maybe 80%    the syslite has a bit more of an amber light whereas this is a bit whiter/blue   Makita claims 9 hrs of run time (unconfirmed by me)

you could easily fit 3 of these lights and 3 batteries into a sys-1  or 2 of these and a standard flashlight

Ughhh.... Pulling an all nighter trying to finish up a long overdue bill for a customer.. The thing i hate most about staying up all night is when the sun starts to rise and the birds start to sing... yeah i know that sounds awful because those are usually little pleasures of life,  but that is the point of the night/morning when i realize that i really have been up all night and i now have to start a whole new day on no sleep

luckily i have my most beloved kitchen tool to keep me going!  couldn't do it without you espresso!!!

Anyone else an Espresso convert??

Roma sure does make a good cup, Ive had it for maybe 8 months now and still not 100% sure which is my favorite, I think its Fortissio Lungo.  I brew two capsules on the Lungo size (3.75oz, 110ml)  that gives me 7.5oz, enough to sip for a few minutes in the morning.

Its funny, I wasnt sure about buying it (wife was pushing it).. since we got it i haven't touched the old keurig coffee maker once    im hooked

Here are a few final MFCT mods,    i didnt like the fact that i couldnt add it to the top of a stack of systainers (all on top of the vac) so using a few fastcap power head screws i came up with a way to attach it

i also figured i would see how it took some finish (debating on doing it to my MFT and would rather screw this little guy up)  just used a satin oil poly. I think it came out nice, and now i dont have to worry about glue, water etc..

this pic shows the screws, they all have a counterbore so they can be screwed in flush if need be

[attachimg=#]

just sitting on top of a systainer, not latched

[attachimg=#]

latched on top of a systainer, im lifting they systainer by the MFCT top only  its on there!

[attachimg=#]

here it is ready to do some work, when you get to where your working, just un latch it from the top of the stack, remove the rest of the systainers from the vac and then clip the MFCT to the vac

[attachimg=#]

let me know what you think of if you have any suggestions

John

Waiting for me when i got home!   My first lee valley purchase and i must say i am very impressed with the experience.

I like the MFCT.   Smart and simple.
I would add few domino slots on outside (see pic) for use when locked on top of a Systainer.  It would enhance clamping capability.

Thanks for the kind comments,  I really like your mod, truthfully i only ever thought of using it when it was clipped to the hose garage of the CT but i like having the option of clamping on it when its on a systainer... unfortunately i don't have a domino but i do have access to one... ill have to give it a try!

Thanks

I ordered a handful of the Tloc micros also!

i thought the same thing.. they probably expect them to sit on a shelf and not really serve any purpose.. ill let you know what i fill mine up with as i do.. so far i have business cards in one to keep in the truck and different paperclips in 2 others for the desk

let me know if you come up with any good ideas

Just a thought. If you don't have a Domino, you could cut slots at the bottom with a router. (See the picture).

I dont have the domino but even if i did i think i like the idea of slots on the bottom edge better, it would leave more meat on the top and you could route the groves deeper so you could insert the clamps further, i feel like the domino wouldn't plunge deep enough (but what do i know  [smile])

So i had an idea of mounting my router into my mft 800 so i could save some space in my trailer.  i currently use the MDF Bosch Table (where all the parts came from in the picture) although im not in love with anything about it.

has anyone done this?  how does it work?  anything i should know?

I thought about using the Veritas Base Plate because of its size and ease of inserting and removing  anyone have experiance with this one

i dont plan to leave the router in all the time, just when i need it, then remove it and fill the hole with an MDF blank the same shape as the plate was.

There are some here who have done that or even mounted a kreg clamping plate.  I seem to recall a member - maybe RL - who mounted a CMS router plate.  If you decide to do it, I have in the classifieds an offer to give away the same router table.  You could pickup an extra base for the cost of shipping that way.

So,  after much fustration with my Makita LS1016, i finally decided to do something about it. i had my local Makita rep out a few times to look at it, he took it in for service (came back worse that it went in) and we eventually decided that the saw was not fixable and had some real defects.  after some tough negotiating i got him to give me a generous store credit offer (at local shop) and a few cordless goodies to make up for all my headaches through the years (saw is 4 years old so i did pretty good, thanks Makita rep Jeff!)

I knew i didnt want to screw around again with a new Makita or anything else really so yesterday i pulled the trigger on a new Kapex from ToolNut!  Im thinking it should be here wednesday!!

I plan to mount it to my MFT800 and build some custom extensions for it,  i dont plan to use the crown stops or the multiblades.com adapters but make my own... anyone have pictures they can share of their setup?

John

John, if you're into precision routing you can't afford the sag that the MFT will give. I have had my router mounted in an MFT. To get rid of the sag I welded some support on the underside.

Here is a thread showing the frame I put under the table:
