I recently purchased OF 1010 Req F-plus and love it!  I'm interested with 1/2 collet 1400 but little hesitant since this model had been around so long... there may be a chance for a newer version soon? Any insight for upcoming change to 1400 will be appreciated!

Festool generally doesn't telegraph new models of tools, other than discontinuing the current SKU, which leads to lots of speculation regarding whether it presages a newer version, or discontinuing the tool for good. No signs of that for the OF1400 right now (2022-11-17).

That being said, based on the recent OF1010 facelift, when the inevitable OF1400 facelift occurs, my suspicion is that it will be just that: a light facelift on an otherwise solid tool that still outclasses most peers. If you have a project coming up that would benefit from a slightly larger and more powerful version of your OF1010, I'd suggest the current iteration of the 1400 should do you proud.

Agreed totally with Tom. The new version of the OF1010 is effectively a scaled-down version of the OF1400. All of the "improvements" just converted it to the OF1400s features, with the exception of the ratchet mechanism of the collet/spindle.
That said, I doubt that there is much that they could do to it. The only thing I ever hear anyone complain about with the OF1400 is the copy ring movement issue. This is a "good thing/bad thing" situation. The quick-disconnect feature is far better than the 2 screws method for swapping the accessories to the base, because you will actually use it. But, that speed/convenience has one drawback, adjustability. If you do inlays with a copy ring (bush/bushing) it's not the best, but for other things, like the dust catcher cup, fantastic.
There are times with the OF1010, where I should use the dust catcher, I just don't. It's not difficult, but just a hassle, especially since it has to come back off again to fit into the Systainer.
I would bet that the OF1400 is "safe" for a long time.

I don't have the copy ring issue with the OF1400, but did have it with the OF2200, in the end after trying multiple rings, I just tapped with a hammer around the ring's outside edge to deform the edge the tiniest amount equally around, so it's now dead centre and doesn't move. It did irk me with a machine that expensive there was any play, but it is what it is.

The one thing I'd have liked with the OF1400 though is a better handle grip, making it more streamlined or even just adding some finger depressions would make it far more manoeuvrable I reckon, especially when using it one handed. I find it's just that slightly uncomfortably bulky to grip for agile use occasionally.

I was just at a Festool event in Houston and two area Festool reps were there. One of them said that the OF1400 was receiving an update but the only change that he was aware of was that Festool was changing the on/off switch lock to accommodate new legal requirements in the EU. Apparently all of their routers that have trigger locks will be redesigned with some sort of “dead man” switch to comply with these new legal requirements.

Thanks so much all for detailed explanation! Much appreciated! I can see myself with 1400 on my hand sooner than anticipated :)

A non-voltage release (NVR) switch, for sure.  The requirement that did in the CMS table system.

I might as well put the reminder out there again for people to get used to it, but I wouldn't anticipate a light or digital depth reader or other fancy additions on a 1400 update.
