Anyone fixed a Canon LED screen?

The camera is a Canon Powershot SD700 IS. Screen is dark although the camera powers up and takes pictures okay. I've hunted through all the menus but admit that I may have missed somewhere to turn it back on? I'm thinking it's the LED itself. I think it might be close to the price of a new camera to get it fixed. The last time I sent something to Canon it was a $350 repair.

Sounds like the backlight on the LCD Is dead.

I have fixed several electronics myself and ordered the part(s) fromhttp://www.partstore.com.  It's pretty easy to find the parts on there and the prices are reasonable.  I don't have any specific experience with that product but I have fixed a DLP TV, the kids' video games consoles and various other things.  I did a search for your model and didn't see the LCD (or backlight) listed but it's still possible that they carry it.  If you can get the camera apart and get a part number it would aid in your search for a replacement.  As a comparison, the LCD for one of my boy's Playstation Portable (PSP) was about $80 with shipping as I recall for a brand new replacement.

Is there a button labeled "disp" on the back of your camera? I remember you could turn screen overlay info and the screen on and off with it.

Yep, that's easy  ,. you can order the screen directly form Canon for about 40 $ +shipping
to change it, just call their support, they will ask you your model number,....

-> it is not very difficult , you cna even find on the internet people who have done that
you just need to be organized and patient. it took me about 15 min to replace on a SD830
(pretty much the same)

I meant LCD. It's five am here, I just got home! I've been working on an HBO series all week and I'm beat. This will be one that is AINA! A new 'Band of Brothers'!

Good chance your screen is dead. This is not necessarily a bad thing. It's just like in the analog days again. Use the viewfinder, take your shots and wait till you get em develloped (or viewed on the pc in this case) If you look at it positively this adds excitement to photography.

Tell that to She Who Takes More Pictures Than I Do. She's accustomed to editing on the fly and was very displeased by the suggestion that it was an exciting development to not have a screen.
