Why are you planning to pin the dominoes?

Just a little extra reinforcement.  This part of the crib will be painted so a little filler in the pin holes and I should be all set.  Do you think it's not needed to pin them?

Definitely not needed. Once glued, those dominoes will NOT be going anywhere!

Roger that. Thanks.

For the corner posts I'm trying to decide between hickory or ash.  Not sure if one is better than the other.  Any thoughts?  And as far as thickness goes, should these be 6/4 or 8/4?  They are the only supporting structure that will carry the weight of the crib.

3/4 inch would be sufficient structurally.  The decision should be based upon aesthetics - whatever you think looks best.  I personally think 8/4 would be a bit much but that's just me.

The "legs" or corners of the one I built were 1 3/4" thick finished, and the slats were 1 1/2"x 1/2"thick with a 2" spacing.
