Best hose for jobsite table saw: 26mm, 36mm or CMS Dust Extraction Hose Set

Hi,

I am about to but a jobsite table saw for home/shop use. Wish I could get a larger saw but it has to move around a lot. As most jobsite saws on the U.S. market it has a 2-1/2” port below the saw (I know, I will need an adapter in any case). Unfortunately, there is port at the blade guard but I will look into a solution for that.

What is the best hose to maximize dust extraction with a CT MINI I dust extractor? I only have a 26mm hose right now. I assume 36mm would make a different? Is the CT Mini I strong enough to split with the CMS Dust Extraction Hose Set or some other Y-connector to get dust extraction both below the saw and at the blade guard? If splitting, does it matter whether or not the entire run is anti-static?

Other tools that might benefit are the TSC 55 and OF1400.

Thanks!

36 mm would be best all round but I actually use Fein 50mm for mine, also great for cleanup compared to other available sizes.

I have a DeWALT DWE7491 and a CT 48, which came with the 36 mm hose. On the DeWALT side, I found a silicone coupler that's made for automotive use; it goes from 2.5" to 1.75" and the Festool hose fits snugly inside. So far, it's collecting dust quite well. Sure beats the firehose spray pattern coming out the back when there's no dust collection.

I use a 2 inch shop vac hose to connect my job site saw to my CT26. It fits the vac (and the saw) without an adapter. I forget the brand, though I think it’s ShopVac. It’s a super flexible accessory hose that i found while browsing the hardware store well before I bought the CT.

I have a Mini and a Midi vac to use with my CS70 table saw, and I am not impressed with the dust extraction. I have the 27 mm hose, I have the 36 mm hose, and I have the Y-split hose.

DC is nothing impressive at all with the Y-split hose on the Mini/Midi. In the past I had a CTL 26 and that one worked a lot better.

Most of the time I do not use the blade guard on top due to the nature of my cuts, so there is no DC there.

Most dust of the saw goes to the bottom port, and when you connect a 36 mm hose only to that port, DC is OK, most of that goes into the Mini/Midi. You can fill a bag in a few hours though.

I also have a cyclone I can use in between, and when I use that one, DC drops even more. But, connect it with 36 mm hoses to the bottom only, and it collects most of the dust there, and saves my bags.

Anyway, definitely get a 36 mm hose, the 27 is worthless here.

Alex... do you use full-length hoses and a seprate Y piece or do you use the prefab-set with the ~1m 36mm hose and 1.5m 27 hose?

I have the official Y-split hose that comes with the set. And the small extention to fit the Midi.

And then I have two 36 mm hoses, one AS, one non-AS.

And I have two 27 mm hoses, one old type, one new type.

So I have a few options. You can also take off the fittings and recombine.

Yes, I have the same hose on a CS 50 combined with CTL 22. Works perfectly. If the top hose it not in use it's blocked with a round piece of wood.

Yeah, I think it's your bigger vac, the 22. When I had the 26 it also worked better, there's still a bit of power lacking with the smaller vacs. Initial suction with a new bag is good, but when it fills up a bit, suction level drops dramatically.

I use a 2 1/2" Ridgid brand hose from Home Depot for my Bosch portable table saw to a CT36. The saws dust collection can be improved upon with some modifications. Otherwise my most used hose is definitely the D36 in a 5 meter length. The D27 hose only gets used with the smaller routers and sanders.

Suction power drops with the 26 too, but also heavily depends on type of dust. My current CTL 26 bag is half full with plaster and concrete dust, it definitely doesnt suck as good when the bag was fresh. I also have the idea the 22 drops less in suction as the bag fills. The 26 seems to suffacte it's filter by sucking through only a tiny portion of the bag.

For any tool with a large dust output, I would put a Cyclone/Bucket  on that vacuum. If you cannot afford the Festool one then Dust Deputy is great, even Home Depot makes one now.  Save you lots on bags.
