Big Green Egg table

This project came to me out of the blue but it look like fun so what the heck?  The customer brought almost all of the material and a design concept.  I used the of1010, of2200, ro150, ets125,

I've never used the BGE.  I noticed that it's in very close proximity to wood, and that causes me to ask about the skin temperature of the BGE.  Is it well-enough insulated to protect the wood from becoming part of the dinner experience?

I have the Large BGE mounted in a hole of an unused wooden picnic table. While the ceramic does get very hot to the touch, I have experienced no burning or charing of the wood around the hole. It is recommended to leave 1/2" spacing. The part that gets incredibly hot is the bottom. If the Egg sits directly on a wooden surface or even if sitting on paver block in direct contact with wood it will char the wood when doing long cooks. You really need to use the little ceramic feet to get a small air gap on the bottom. Lots of pictures and comments about this on the Egg owners forum.

Very nice table.

We have a large BGE and wish we had room for a table/stand. 

True--the BGE is expensive but if you grill/smoke/barbecue, it is worth the money.

Considering it can get up to 1000 degrees, possibly a concern. Although I know of no one who has mentioned those tables catching fire, and there is a pretty religious following to The Egg. Two of my family members has one for years, cooks on it all the time, one has a wood table, and never had any issues and has stretched the Egg to it's limits. The other has a granite top, which presents it's own problems, with mobility, weight etc.

I want to pick one up someday, but waiting to expand my deck first. I would get (or build) the wood table. The one in this thread is fantastic.

Great looking table!  I will have to see about borrowing some design ideas when I make a table for my poor man's egg - The Bubba Keg.  It doesn't get hot like the Egg does.

Dude,  I have good news and bad.  The bad news is that the Bubba Keg (or Kreg) has been discontinued  [eek].  The good news is that it is now sold as the Broil KING KEG 4000.

So I guess that makes you King Kreg the 4000th?  In Roman numerals that would be King Kreg MMMM.   [eek] [eek]  Not really - there is a Roman numeral character for 5000 but I couldn't figure out how to type it.

Long cook the KING!  MMMM.
