Big New Announcement from Kreg

Looks like Kreg is taking a page out of the Apple marketing manual.  Generate excitement and anticipation by not telling anyone what's going on...

Isn't it more like generate excitement and anticipation by telling everyone that they're not telling anyone what's going on?  [smile]

From the references of DIY'er accessibility and the bold electrical outlet and cord at the end of the video, it sounds like an entry level electric foreman to me.  Whatever it may be, I doubt that they'd put their brand at risk by sacrificing build quality and durability to reach the masses. I hope it's a winner.

Kreg already reaches the masses, they are in the home stores all over the place. Menard's carries their line for one.

Welcome to the forum!

Last time they did this they released a rubbish looking extra long side fence for your circular saw. Hope it's a more exciting tool this time :)

Indeed they do.

I meant to say for them to be able to reach the masses with their new product.  The electric foreman is hardly what I would call an accessible tool for the average DIY'er and they sure aren't stocked at the local box store, which out of complete conjecture sounds like what they're planning to do with their new product.

Why does plastic make something crappy? There are many good Kreg tools.

I prefer a well made plastic item than a poorly designed metal one.

Maybe a comparison between apples and apples would be more in place - would you rather have the same product made in good plastic or equally good milled aluminium if its meant to be rigid, take a beating and just plain work - regardless what the tool might be? Most plastic products just don't last nor have the air of quality I want from my tools.

I highly doubt anyone of us would like to rather have a plastic version of the Domiplate instead of the aluminium version or a plastic version of the Precision Dogs parallel guides for example.

The one Kreg jig I've personally used was the worst piece of flimsy, flexing plastic crud I've used in ages i.e. the Deck Pocket Hole Jig. It flexes, feels like it's going to fall apart from the slightest twist / tension on the drill or screwdriver and the stop collars are sliding all over the place all the time regardless how tight I tighten the screw. Also the Kreg specific deck screws sucked big time compared to my trusty Essve Torx headed deck screws ruining two of the Kreg drill bits over the course of driving a measly 500 screws into the deck I was building. And to top it off it comes as a do-it-yourself jigsaw puzzle with every drilling guide to be attached by myself and needing tightening three times over a day of deck building. Not my idea of a quality piece of kit. I'm just glad I didn't have a 100m2 deck to build but just a small front porch.

And frankly when I've looked at the Kreg Pocket Hole jigs in stores they feel very flimsy compared to my UJK Technologies (Axminster) solid aluminium one.

I do admit that I didn't know that Kreg manufactures anything else but those plastic pocket hole jigs they are known for here since I don't think they are sold in Finland at all.

I'm betting that it's a small portable jig like the others but with some sort of fixed drill bit that can be easily attached to a drill, or that has a foot pedal.

Well that's 3:19 of my life I will never get back.  How so many people can say that many words and provide so little information is beyond me.  ???

I'm not against plastic in my tools, in fact I prefer the exterior of my drill chucks to be plastic (they're nice to the touch when cold and they don't mar up surfaces as much).

I couldn't imagine what a drill would weigh if the body wasn't made of plastic. :P
And if you had to carry around a bunch of Kreg jigs they would be a lot heavier without plastic bodies so I can't say I'm against that either...

Come on guys, it is obvious, the blue plastic is going Green!  [big grin]

I don't get the hatred toward plastic. Isn't all of festool are made of plastic. My carpenter said I was stupid for paying that much money for a saw that is made of plastic.  I have the previous version keep jig and I haven't broken it and I'm not gentle with my tools either.

I did not read the email, after I saw it was an announcement that they were going to be making an announcement at a later date.
What is the point?
